I broke it quickly...And repeatedly...Chaste White Rebuild

GPS fitted, I can go and have a play with it this weekend. Also had to swap out to a new alternator as was having some voltage issues.

I’ve had to lose the 2 buttons on the centre console (1 was a blank) but one buttons was front fogs which I don’t have and the other rear heated screen which I don’t need and well #racecar so no big deal.

Black alternator looks a bit neater I think.

Also quite proud of my little Milwaukee spirit level. 😂

Also a little clip from some road tuning over the weekend. Forgive the terrible audio and dirty lens.

This was a third gear pull to 9500rpm at our lowest boost setting of 12psi. I did actually try and set up the Dragy to get a benchmark but unfortunately it didn’t capture the run. The ECU logs using the wheel speed sensors suggest a 5.9s 100-200kph. We are on target for a quick car at full boost.

Will be doing some more tuning this weekend with a bit more boost if the weather allows. We will then start to introduce the methanol as we up the boost.

Target is around 2bar.

Not too much to report other than I did some more testing over the weekend which resulted in me losing 80% of the coolant following a 9900rpm 3rd gear pull.

Here is a picture in its natural habitat.

IMG_1084.jpeg

Luckily I didn’t fry the engine though I have a feeling it was close.

This is a 14 psi pull dropping to 9psi and throttle closing to 30% passed 9000rm. That has been removed for next set of testing.

IMG_1101.png

Technically the run was invalid due to the slope but corrected we get a 6s 100-200kph.

Semi PP and the big turbo doing amazing. Are you on the stock fd box?

Done any more runs since?

Yes still stock box.

No more runs yet, sorting out the meth set up first and then will up the boost a bit.

I do plan to do some more 1bar runs before we turn it up though, I think it has a 5.6 - 5.8 in it at low boost. The 5.9-6.0 run we did the boost reduced to 9psi at high RPM and the throttle closed to 30% too, we have removed these parameters now.

living dangerously and also good to know the stock box can do 10k rpm.

Nice dude, you're basically running the entire 100-200 in 3rd?

Whenever possible are you able to run a couple of tests and shift 3rd at 8krm, 8.5krpm, 9kpm and whatever you did on this run hah!!

None the less, great result and whenever you get a valid run, post it up and i'll update the RX7 leaderboard!

Yes 3rd gear to 10k gets the job done. 😂

Been over to Matt at Level Motorsport Wiring today for a bit of trouble shooting relating to the 02 sensor and to change how the lambda sensor itself is powered.

IMG_1393.jpeg

It looks like we’ve solved that issue which in part was due to rolling back a firmware version on the ECU. But as you know with me, nothing ever works out as it should as I’m cursed by Satan himself.

I was literally about to drive away when we spotted that the brand new less than 50 miles old turbo oil feed pipe has failed at the turbo end, good job we caught it before I drove the 50 miles home, no doubt the car would of gone up in a blaze of glory.

IMG_1396.jpeg

The annoying part is that it’s brand new from Hosetecnik which as far as I can tell is part of Forge Motorsport, im sure they will sort it but it has meant the car has to stay in Wales whilst I go and get this resolved on Tuesday as they are now closed. To make matters worse it’s absolutely glorious today, 17c and sunny. 😢

Not too much to report.

I had a new turbo oil line made up but added a 90 degree bend to reduce the chances of another stressed/broken line. Also sorted an annoying leak at the turbo oil adaptor fitting. No more oil leaks.

IMG_1503.jpeg

We’ve had a long term issue with 3 to 3.5k area of the map on cruise where rotor 1 would be a lot cooler than rotor 2, a change from the 1650s to the Bosch 2200s has solved that issue. To make the swap easy I just bought the little adapter looms too.

IMG_1513.jpeg
IMG_1514.jpeg

Ive also had an intermittent issue with the dash losing power, it’s been few and far between but In order to stop it happening again I’ve been checking all of the earth points of new loom, the very nature of the car is that it vibrates a lot so just trying to get a solid reliable base.

Cleaned up the main ECU earth point.

This weekend I’m going to swap over to a 10 60 oil, will stick to Valvoline for now.

IMG_1706.jpeg

Colum schooled me on needing to run 3/4 on the dipstick as the sump has a bit more capacity and as such can result in filling the catch can more regularly, that’s exactly what has happened so will fill a little less this time round.

In summary the car is becoming more and more reliable after each drive, slowly sorting all the little issues and then we can start pushing it.

Final thing to do is test water meth set up flow rates and then we can start to introduce meth and more boost.

I get real nervous when I see your updates 😂 I’m almost worried about what I’m going to see! Glad you’re getting to that more reliable stage, always the thing isn’t it fix one hole next one leaks.

I’m trying to learn from my previous mistakes of pressing forward to quickly and not covering enough miles and fixing each little issue. There’s no rush in running at full power, I’m not competing with anyone other than doing it for my own enjoyment.

A bit of testing tonight.

First things first, the GRacing shifter is shit, avoid. I’ll be removing mine and whacking it on eBay, trying to shift with it at high rpm is a challenge to say the least. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd it like to go into 5th more than it does third.

In more positive news, at 1bar (lowest possible boost setting) the car did a sub 6 second verified 100-200kph. This is using third gear only, with a 2nd to 3rd shift I think a few tenths can be shaved off.

I’ve swapped out the GRacing short shifter for the JP3 short shift kit from USA.

It’s based on the Mazdaspeed/ C’s short shift kit and hoping that this one will help with the accuracy of the 2nd to 3rd shift.

Swapped out from the MX5 to RX7 gearbox top mount.

IMG_1879.jpeg

Fitted the new shifter with spacer and gasket. Also topped up with a little gear oil.

IMG_1880.jpeg
IMG_1881.jpeg

Fitted the rest of the gear surround and carbon gear knob.

IMG_1882.jpeg

Next mission is get as close to 5.5s 100-200 at 1bar. Wish me luck.

Pleased to say the shifter is spot on. Very pleased with the general feel and its ability to shift smoothly and accurately.

I’ve not practiced too much yet as not had the time and quiet roads to do so but early indications show 2nd to 3rd shift is around 0.6s in terms of shifting and being back in the power band so we’ve enabled flat shift.

I’m going to need to practice and hope & pray the gearbox can take it at such high rpm.

Im still convinced it has a 5.5s 100-200 @1bar.

Watch this space.

The Aquamist water meth set up has just not worked for me so decided to rip up and start again replacing with Pro Meth products which is what I should have done from the start, just at the time Prometh didn’t have the jets I needed, turns out they do now.

I’m aware that Aqua tec manufacture the pumps and the likes of Devils Own, Pro Meth and Aquamist put their branding on but I decided to go up in pump size to help get the flow. Pump is currently with Matt at LMW having the correct loom plug added.

IMG_1982.jpeg

Next up I’ve placed an order with Pro Meth for a very similar set up to this but with braided PTFE lines to deal with the methanol. Colum is going to help with some basic bracketry.

It turns out the 1600cc Aquamist solenoids are basic £15 welder solenoids that they sell for over £100 each. These will be the only elements I keep as they are proven to do the job.

IMG_1989.jpeg

Next up I pulled all the lines off the water meth system as kept getting build up in the jets reducing flow - still not entirely sure where the debris has come from but upon inspecting the tank you can see it’s full of debris, next step is to clean all lines and tank so before refitting.

Waiting game now to get the new Prometh jets, lines and fittings. Will likely need a new feed line too and a slight amendment to wiring loom to extend water meth pressure sensor.

In other news my snazzy 75mm billet compressor wheel was ever so slightly fouling the inside of the compressor housing, I think it just needed a few thou taking out for clearance.

Due to have a Winchester sump I was over filling engine oil so removed a decent chunk yesterday as suggested by Colum to run just over the half way point on the dipstick. I was filling catch can too regularly for my liking, this should solve it.

IMG_1987.jpeg

When I have all the bits for the water meth bits plan is to book in with Colum to have diff brace and gearbox brace fitted as well as some new brackets etc.

In the meantime when I get some time I’m still keen to try and test Dragy 100-200kph with new shifter, I think there’s potential to drop a few tenths at 1bar.
