I broke it quickly...And repeatedly...Chaste White Rebuild

Sadly I’ve had another 02 sensor fail on me but we’ve figured out it’s the condensation and moisture killing them. It’s because the angle of the sensor in the downpipe. To rectify it I’ve bought an innovate sensor protector, should be here Thursday along with my 3rd 02 sensor. Oh the joys !

What's the deal with these? Does it not remove too much of the sensor from the flow? Looks interesting for rotarys

Apparently not as you line up the holes with the sensor to keep the flow in line but we will soon see.

I just hope it helps as killing 02 sensors is getting annoying. I really don’t want to have to reposition bung as although not a big deal it would mean messing with the thermomet heat protection.

Interested to see how that goes

Hectic work schedule, shit weather and my 3rd bout of Covid has meant progress has been slow.

Today I fitted the new water/meth pump and added 250psi spring, will need to test this with tuner, fingers crossed we get the pressure we need.

Also fitted the little Syvecs WiFi dongle, this allows me to connect wirelessly to ECU but also add the 0.2 - 0.4amps draw we needed.

Swapped out the water temp sensor plug for a new one that actually clips in nicely to the sensor, I’m going to swap the sensor this weekend also but that means losing coolant, new coolant arrived so can top up.

Fresh 02 sensor now has the correct plug too, need to fit with the above bung.

Not feeling this weather 🥶

The O2 bung is a cool piece. Guessing that machined dot is to give a reference of where the hole is to allow you to line it up with the flow direction!?

Found an hour to open the garage today for the first time in a few weeks.

Ticked off the coolant sensor issue, fitted new plug which clicks in perfectly and managed to fix the pins within the sensor itself which saved me having to remove the alternator to fit a new sensor. It’s reading in the ECU and has grounded the fans so looks to be working well.

My final task was to fit the innovate bung/02 sensor protector but after talking to the tuner we’ve agreed that the sensor location needs changing otherwise I’ll keeping going through expensive sensors.

As you can see current location is less than ideal. Basically the condensation can pool here easily and wreck sensor, I’ve gone through two already.

Have spoken to Thermomet and they’ve said that if I move bung they can patch up the down pipe.

Will get it fitted here but won’t be until after Christmas, lost the will.

Might just be the angle of the picture but agree with the tuner, terrible placement/angle for the Lambda, all suppliers recommend the tip to be pointing downwards or worse case parallel to the floor. Will be looking to getting my turbo housing etc done with that same heat treatment. its so good, performance and aesthetically!

Yes the angle of the photo isn't great. It is actually in at a 90 degree angle but it is still poor placement. Moisture/condensation is just killing sensors so no choice but to move it. I have the 02 sensor bung now so have welding on in the new position plus a blocking bung to screw into the existing hole.

All good, little video here.

Lots more tuning required and need to change out coolant temp sensor. But all in all a big step in right direction.

In way of a little update.

A little bit more tuning has been completed but I need some new plugs now before continuing. Should be here Thursday.

We’ve solved the ECT and 02 sensor issues.

Sorted all of the leaks and properly bled system meaning our coolant pressure is good.

Put some fresh fuel in albeit some 97 but will switch up to 99 once I’ve burnt through this lot. (It doesn’t take long 😂)

Had an MOT today but beforehand I had to rewire this rear fog, all sorted.

Late last week I bought the Syvecs GPS module which add all sorts of funky stuff like G force, Yaw, roll, timing, map times etc. Tuner uses this for numerous purposes, traction control and even certain elements of ignition and fuelling. (Sounds clever) Should arrive Friday.

Finally I have a new MOT ticket today and some road tax. Game on!
