Goodbye old girl, it’s been emotional.

Joke of course, this thing comes a very close second to my daughter in order of importance and cost 😂

The down pipe has been amended along with boost pipe and EMAP coils.

I plan to have both boost hoses remade next year when I’m a little more flush, this last collection of parts and labour has almost wiped me out.

I’m off tomorrow for a 5hr round trip to Thermomet to drop the down pipe off. Hoping for a fast turnaround.

I have almost finished the wastegate lines, a just need a few AN4 fittings to make the last two lines.

I did a little smoke test after the new down pipe was fitted and had a small leak from the v-band to turbo, it’s either going to seal with expansion or I might try a light slithering of this stuff on the turbo flange itself, anyone else had any joy sealing a joint like this.

Ok, down pipe dropped off at Thermomet yesterday, I should have it back in a few days.

I’m awaiting a few fittings to arrive to finish the second gate but gate 1 lines are done.

I ordered a new key from Mazda as both my keys have a small crack in them, annoying.

Also annoying that the Turbosmart gates use 3/8 deep socket rather than 10mm. Odd as they are made in AUS. Took me ages to track one of these down locally.

I tried some copper sealant on the downpipe v band, and it works for 1 or 2 runs then starts leaking again.

What did work for me was a v band gasket

All fitted but like a dick I snapped the wastegate v band, hope the one I ordered arrives tomorrow.

Have used v band gasket on down pipe, let’s hope that helps.

Oh I ordered a new black key to get cut too.

Last weekend I managed to get the new wastegate v band fitted and also repositioned the other gate which was leaking.

Next I smoke tested again to see no leaks on gates or down pipe which is a result. I used a v band metal gasket on the down pipe which seemed to work.

I do have a leak at the mid pipe join however, I’ll get to work with some exhaust paste to fix that in due course.

On a more negative note unbelievably the lambda issue still exists, it’s a mystery. Within the first few mins of start up I could see the dash showing the lambda going in and out and pinning to 0.98l

Frustrating to say the least but we’ve decided on a workaround by simply fitting a 3rd party Motec PLM. It’s on order from AUS and should arrive in a week or two. The loom will be plug and play and will just require switched 12v and chassis earth.

I’ll need to lose the TEP sensor as all 24 analogue outputs on the ECU are used but it’s no big deal.

Hopefully I’ll be closer to tuning the car in a few weeks.

Turns out wastegates are fine, dip in power up top relates to coolant temp dropping from 85c to 45c at high rpm resulting in ECU chucking in 15% more fuel.

Swapping out temp sensor and thermostat to see if that fixes it. Hoping it’s not EMI related.

It’s been a busy few months with the car which has included two separate dyno sessions.

The tune is pretty much spot on now and the only thing stopping me running full boost is the stock box so for now at least I’ve decided to go down the OS Giken gearset route. It should be here mid to end of Jan with any luck.

To start with I picked up a second hard box for £300 to have rebuilt.

I also managed to pick up new OEM synchros for a good price including seals and spacers needed for the rebuild, im going to use a local gearbox company called Geartech to build it, they’ve quoted me a pretty competitive price.

Eventually I’ll upgrade the brakes but for now I’ve opted for a set of DS2500, I’ll have those fitted at the same time as MOT.

Next up I’ve ordered a full set of Super Pro bushes from AUS for a decent price. I need to order OEM pillow balls, dust covers and snap rings soon.

To start the year I’ve had the RE street diffuser painted, it should be fitted and back with me by mid week.

Annoyingly the Mark Winchester sump sits a bit too low with my set up despite being on what I think are stock mounts, the plugs holes have bottomed out at some point and scraped them out of shape. I’ll need to sort new plugs (I think @Joeybratten may have sent me a few) and then get a sump guard knocked up.

In the meantime I bought a Chinese oil pump changer for the grand some of £40, I’ll give it a whirl this weekend.

Finally I’m not a fan of the twin turbo smart gate noise so I’m going to have an equal length single gate fabricated with use of a single DSPS gate, had a quote today, they are pricey but are awesome so has to be done. This is their 50mm DW1 gate.

P.S - if anyone wants my nearly new Turbosmart 40mm comp gates for a good price send me a DM.

It would seem that for some reason certain sections of the RX7 community won’t accept the 4.65 100-200 Dragy run was just 19psi.

For that section of retards here is a log file clearly showing the cal setting of 2300mb (absolute) equating to 19.35 psi gauge pressure as shown under BOOST column.

It shows rpm, vehicle speed in KPH and more importantly at the top section in the middle of the log you can see the Syvecs GPS recorded time of 4.65s covering a distance of 197metres which just so happens to match the distance covered in the Dragy run. (Bottom pic)

So not only did the dog shit £100 Dragy GPS record the time so did the £900 Syvecs motorsport grade onboard GPS.

It even shows EGTs, timing, inlet temps - the whole run basically, nothing to hide here.

I’m going to sort the bushes over winter months. Ordered the Super Pro kit.

Just need to order OEM pillow balls and some other bits and pieces.
