I broke it quickly...And repeatedly...Chaste White Rebuild

It’s been a few weeks since an update.

The ecu and D4 dash came back earlier this week. Life Racing had to make some amendments to the board to allow us to see all of the PDU information on the dash which also is required for safety measures and alarms.

Good news is all of that is fixed now so that’s a result.

Another outstanding issue was the wheel speed sensors seeing interference from the fuel pumps. The tuner has managed to solve that within the software by messing with frequencies. So a big tick there too.

Next up we had issues with the calibration switches for MAP and traction control. Finally solved too, partly my fault on this one because I didn’t realise there was a lockout switch on the rotary dials to allow me to get to the full 12 positions we needed.

Now the good news is we are almost ready to fire it up. It’s probably going to be this time next week due to other commitments for both the tuner and I.

It’s just a case of testing crank signal, checking ignition and fuel injectors. Prime system and pray to baby Jesus. Not doubt there will be some other issues along the way as let’s be honest that’s just the nature of this car. 😂

Oh I also managed to fix my side lights.

Exciting times Mark! Finger crossed for you 😂

First up some trouble shooting with the tuner which has confirmed the 02 sensor was DOA. Fucking car is the devil, I’m going to name it Lucifer moving forward. New sensor due next week.

Tried to get it going again by cleaning with some brake cleaner, was full of grit but no joy.

No photos but you’ve seen this engine thousands of times by now. Basically I had an exhaust leak from manifold so pulled down pipe, turbo, manifold off this morning to check the flanges with a straight edge just to double check. I’ve refitted using Permatex gasket spray, awesome stuff as it creates a good gasket layer but isn’t messy like paste.

Noticed an issue with the sealing of turbo to manifold so I think this was my exhaust leak. Need to pick up some new bolts from the fasteners Monday.

Next up I solved the turbo regulator oil feed issue by replacing with Turbosmart version 2 which does the same job but without the need of the oil return line back to my filler neck.

So with any luck by this time next week I’ll have a car that is ready to be tuned.

The fight continues, most of the time I want to burn it but managed to get it started today.

Some teething issues with exhaust leaks and issues with turbo oil return but I guess I should be happy.

To normal car people these must sound so alien under the bonnet! good to see you’ve made progress bud, ts always the way 😂 there’s always something to bloody sort! mines the black curse 🙄

How old was that O2 sensor?

I think the Turbosmart OPR v2 is a god send, just wish the mounting bracket was included!

Some positivity for a change.

First start up to full temp, starts perfectly and sounds great. Timing all set and in good shape.

I need to bleed/burp coolant system on next start up and apart from that I just need the new 02 sensor to come back with the correct loom plug.

With any luck I can go for a road test soon and then book an MOT.

Yesterday mornings fun and games were checking water/meth set up.

We are not quite seeing enough pressure & flow and the adjuster screw on top of the pump looks to be faulty. We managed to test to 2200cc per min but need to get up to 3000cc. +

So Aquamist are on the case to replace pump or send me top section. I think this is like the 3rd or 4th DOA part I’ve had, mental.

Testing was worthwhile though as managed to find a rectify a few leaks in the system.

A little test video.

In other news the 02 and clutch sensors both work as they should. Witness the glow of the NTK sensor.

Should be road testing this week.

This is mad how many broken bits you've had. I have never really been a fan of buying 2nd hand stuff, the past 6 fdoc months have confirmed that!

Keep that warranty card ready!

Tested new top half of water pump, didn't help so looks like pump is knackered. Awaiting news from Aquamist on a new one.

This doesn't stop me progressing with some running in miles though so hopefully I can bleed the coolant later this week and take it on its maiden voyage around the block. Wish me luck !

Haven’t updated for a few weeks, work has been busy and still fighting one or two little issues.

Good news is Aquamist have sent me a new water pump so need to add new plug to that and test, hopefully it gives us the pressure required.

Sadly I’ve had another 02 sensor fail on me but we’ve figured out it’s the condensation and moisture killing them. It’s because the angle of the sensor in the downpipe. To rectify it I’ve bought an innovate sensor protector, should be here Thursday along with my 3rd 02 sensor. Oh the joys !

Next issue is the coolant temp sensor plug doesn’t click in and keep a constant signal so every now and then the coolant temps were dropping out. I’ve sourced an OE style plug to swap out to hopefully solve this issue.

Final thing to install is the Syvecs WiFi module which allows me to connect to the ECU wirelessly instead of plugging in. It’s also a two birds with one stone situation as it’s will draw a constant feed which will ensure my dash amp do not drop too low which in turn was affecting the way the fuel pumps run.

Once all this is resolved I can hopefully start the tuning process and with any luck get an MOT before Christmas.

Have you bought the WiFi module? I finally got mine set up with an ap link hotspot a couple of weeks ago, can send you the details if you want a cheaper alternative.

Hi Marco, yes I’ve bought the module. Arrives today.
