Copyninja Street FD - GT3 Build

For now i think ill keep it mocal thermostat as sake bomb garage and advocult also run the same thermostats and none have reported a failure yet on their kits that I'm aware of.

Hopefully it won't fail and works as it should.

Yeh lots of people run them. Successfully.

Apparently if you leave it too long without using it then it sticks. You best off making sure the plunger moves before you put it on.

Also don't forget to flush your oil coolers and lines out incase there's swarf

Thats a good idea.. will flush the new coolers and lines.

Me too, I will book when there is less chance of getting fined as they are 3hr drive from mine! Makes it a whole day affair to get it mapped!

Haha thats it...so addictive.

Ha nice looks soo good and DCT makes complete sense on track. It's an awesome gearbox. I am hoping to put a e92 m3 dct gearbox in an fd rx7 but first I need my rx7 fully working and functional! Ha

Well, I glad you went rotary, couldn't have anyone rivalling my piston swap.... 🤣 You might want to speak to Gavin he's going DCT, if mine didn't come with a decent 10 speed (full auto) I would have gone this way.

haha you still have the ultimate powerhouse of a receipe! Hopefully we can meet up at a trackday somewhere in the future. Id really like to see how your monster 650bhp and 650 lb ft rx7 feels like :D, Shotgun a passenger ride!

Fingers crossed I made the right decision staying rotary!

10 speed auto sounds amazing...you might get more mpgs than me on a cruise too. Cool will do...once im happy the rotary is mapped and running as it should...dct next for sure.

Got the new setrab 19 row oil coolers.
Same kit as the sake bomb garage kit but supplied by advocult in U.K. and far more competitively priced too. I'd definitely recommend them. Top service and really quick to respond to any questions or queries.

Update - Tim fixed the pop up headlights. Both headlight motors were not working so took them apart and fixed them. Head light relay was not working so changed it. Wire was broken in plug to one of the amps so fixed that. No power to amps so took new power supply from headlight relay. One of the bulbs wasnt secure so fixed that too. Result pop ups do what they should now!

Fueling issue problem - The fuel pump wasn't installed correctly by the previous builder. Then it was taken out and reinstalled by a well known engine builder. Tim started up the engine and it ran for about a minute then ran out of fuel. Advised there was a bare wire in fuel, wrong fitting on top of pump and not sealed tight against washer. Rubber pipe swollen and not suitable for use in fuel.

Solution - Tim got an AN tank braided line on an AN fitting to pump. The rubber hose inside the braided line is the same inside and out, where as normal fuel pipe is only designed for fuel on the inside. New filter sock for the pump. Tim advised by experience when you have a 044 fuel pump on standard lines, the FPR cannot control the fuel pressure as the return line is too small. So the stock fuel filter has been swapped out for a 100 micron AN6 fuel filter for max fuel flow and minimal restriction and an AN6 braided line from tank to engine with this inline filter to replace the standard restrictive filter and AN6 return line. This should help beef up the fuel system for max reliability and minimal restrictions.

Ignition Problem - The previous builder did not wire in and install my HKS Twin power correctly. Advised only L2 and T2 were wired in by previous builder. Absolutely shocking how you can call yourself an engine builder and not wire in critical components properly.

Solution - As I've upgraded to the link G4+ ECU.... I've also gone for a smart coil solution from Haltech. Hopefully no more ignition breakup anywhere in the rev range anymore.

IMG-20200518-WA0026.jpg

Oil Coolers and lines - Tim advised there was 5m of pipework for the oil cooler lines which could have been done with 3m and without 3x180 degree bends on the oil coolers. He sent me a pic of banjo for oil feed from engine which was not good for maximum oil flow, then add 5m of pipework and 3x180 degree bends then back into engine through another banjo.

IMG-20200429-WA0035.jpg

Solution - The 5m of pipework has been fully reworked and reduced to 3m. The restrictive banjo bolts were replaced with full flow/ultra flow AN12 fittings. Oil cooler thermostats moved to the left inner wing so there is much shorter pipework for oil flow on start up and when cold. Then both oil coolers turned the other way up and used 90 degree ultra/full flow AN fittings from underneath. So 5x 90 degree, 1x 60degree ultra flow fittings and 2xAN12 adapters with braided lines to screw into engine instead of the crappy banjo bolts with restrictive oil lines. The 3x180 degree fittings were also removed from the oil coolers.

Shame about the previous builders, sounds like you are doing it right now though!

Indeed its absolutely shocking. However Tim at RX Motors knows what hes doing and its back together sooner than I expected. Hopefully collection day soon!

Just throwing it out there, if the fuel pump is rewired to the battery with a relay, you may want to replace the OEM fuel pump wires with some thicker gauge wires (most do 10 awg, i believe mine are 12) just because they are pretty thin. I still use the stock connector though, no problems!! Great build, pretty jealous about those oil coolers...i want to get those coolers. Good info about ditching the extra lines and bends. I also went with the IGN1A coils (the AEM re brand) and the car runs amazing! I was having Ignition breakup with the stock coils and Twin Power as well.

Nice one will let Tim about the fuel pump wires.

Those setrab coolers are awesome def get a set when you get a chance.

I was hoping to get closer to 500bhp so was looking to beef up fuel, ignition, cooling etc and to make things as reliable as possible. Tim's experience is really showing with all the little things that have been improved...which I didn't know about before.

Is that braided hose rated to be submerged all the time?

Also that fuel filter do you mean 10 micron? 100 micron isn't really filtering much in relative terms

yes i believe it is. I will confirm just to be on the safe side or change it to a hard line instead just to be on the safe side.

Def a 100 micron fuel filter but I think a 100 micron filter is better than no fuel filter as what ive been told by Tim! Absolutely shocking the catastrophic errors made by Frank the previous engine builder!

Yeh modern injectors need to do a smaller micron. The inejctors specifically say i have to have a 10 Micron filter.

You should be able to swap the element inside the filter.. Defo get it done tho for the sake of 30 quid u don't want blockages.

Thanks mate that's really good info. I didn't know about this, I've got bosch 1650cc secondaries. How do i find out what micron mine will need?

Yh man for sure, i'll get that changed.
