looking for a garage to update my electrics and do mapping

Er I learnt as I went along. I got one with a flying lead that helped but not necessary tbh. The things that caught me out were 'nice to haves' like battery isolator, canbus comms with ecu and doing fancy stuff like that, fuel pump contollers etc. The basics of 'wire from here to here and back to ground was all pretty self explanatory. Feel free to drop me a message if you want more info mate
thanks : )

Other end of the scale if you ultimately want an R8... Break it and stop wasting heart break and stress....
I dont really, I drove an R8 at a track day - nearly fell asleep at the wheel, came home from track day determined to have braps and flames and fuel stink.

Other end of the scale

thanks for this, I have been looking on a few kit car sites etc - this looks very similar to something I already have in the car (that I havent a clue what to do with) I love the website describtion says "easy" about 3 times :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::LOL:

Aim have what looks to be a pretty good setup with pdm and dash. If I were doing it again I would be tempted to go that route.

Watched your video and I had a headache watching it but i do like our enthusiasm trying to get it street legal. I can understand why no one wants to take on this job immediately/asap. You are not wrong either as most shops can do a rebuild with far less effort than try to figure out the wiring mess in your car. Try Tim at Rx Motors, he miraculously fixed my electrical abs issues which many pro shops were unable to fix.

option 1 (cheapest) - who did this job? take it back to them and beg to get it road worthy :ROFLMAO: as they are most likely the only few who will be able to understand how to integrate stuff into this harness or why it was even done this way?!likely the cheapest option. Although you've spent over £700 without any results so far!

option 2 (not cheap) - start fresh, new link g4x ecu, fuel tech / modern ecu of your choice etc and new custom loom. I doubt any reputable tuner will be able to do this work for cheap because its technical. New ECU £1-2k, £1.5k for new loom and up to 1k for a full map depending on who does it. Plus another 1k for digi dash - this could cost anywhere from £3.5k+ (If money is no object then contact https://www.renvale.com/ they are probably one of the very few tech experts who might be able to build a loom etc with your current setup....assuming they take on the job.)

option 3 - learn to build custom looms and how to map with hp academy and it all comes down to how quickly you can grasp/apply it to the problems you have.
Option 4 - just buy my ecu and loom. Job done !

Could be worse, I remade the F1 relay box using standard relays for the pop up headlights.

Have you got a copy of the electric wiring diagrams (all be it the USA car) ?

ah cool, no I dont have wiring diagrams yet - tbh im hoping a knowledgeable person will accept my money and do it for me but so far no takers - feels like back in my dating days :ROFLMAO:

I would buy it today ! - but theres no mappers, the closest ive come to getting someone to agree to provide a map is Pip at WGT but since the car is 8 hours drive/650 quid trailer from cornwall to cheshire Pip can only email a map not actually map the car so just a map to run it at low rpm to MOT center

anyway I had a snag yesterday that have thrown in an added challenge, hoping its only my very expensive new battery that has taken a dump and not something else -

Took me 12 months to do mine on the drive. Its a huge undertaking.
I'd cut the wire off at the plug after the stalks and started fresh.
Fusebox lives behind the passenger seat. I tidied it up over lockdown because I removed my rollcage and reinstalled a full interior.
I've got LinkG4 ECU and a digital dash.
It wasn't the most tidy in the world and I made quite a few mistakes. I worked from the Mazda wiring diagram and then made each circuit work.

If you go for a new ECU get something with plenty of sensor inputs, then the dash can run straight off CANBUS, only a single wire then.

I bought a special gizmo from USA that let me use the stock mazda fuel level sensor on the digital dash.

WGT used to offer it as a service, maybe Pip could recommend an electrician that can undertake the work (maybe ???)
thanks for your suggestions : )

thanks - im trying option 1 and chasing Ross but hes never been interested in helping not since I bought the car, even with the 700 fuel controller bill for no results plus transport to and from and the whole wasted 2k debacle I am still trying Dragon - he has the expertise no doubt and going to Dragon would save massive amounts on trailer fees since its only an hour away.

Option 2 might have to happen - video all my current stuff, send to Rywire or someone and have them send me a loom that just plugs into PDM/ECU/Dididash something childsplay to install due to all fuses etc gone and take the huge bill for kit in order to save labour and hopefully be able to DIY since it should be all simplified and plug-in.

Option 3 - no chance unf, too thick and not got patience plus by the time taken to learn I couldve funded option 2 5 x over by doing my day job so would no make sense to stop work and learn tuner skills and weekend etc ive got family and kids taking a fair chunk of time, self learning and building might be an option when kids are teens and doing their own thing but not right now.

Thanks

Based upon your response for option 1, while hopeful it looks unlikely to happen.

Ahh very good..option 2 - Clean slate and you get to choose how you want it done but also get the chance to grow and learn how the setup will all work together. Should be worth it in the long term. Plus it will be desirable if you choose to sell it. All new Motorsport level harness will be better than 30 year old crusty harness the majority of us are running.

haha totally understand. I learnt to map but the harness building has taken a bit of a back seat. Neither is easy or intuitive but likewise any harness building i would outsource to a pro who knows how it will all synergise with the pdm/ecu/dash/all sensors etc to run seamlessly with the ecu.

Another question to really think about is where are the indicators going to go on the front bumper and the side indicators.

To be fair if you just wanted it to be road legal and get you going then I'd diy the cheap option and then investigate the dearer ones. At least you can take it to workshops more easily if it was road legal.

thanks yes I am learning towards this plan 2 - im hoping to find someone to sell me all the gear ECU/PDM/DASH/LOOM and basically sell me a kit that I can plonk straight in and connect as a kit - then from the PDM I can muddle along with stuff like indicators/lights and so on BUT first I am going to try and a budget version of option 2 which would be - Plug in ECU such as Link/Haltech etc which plugs into dash unit giving me a digital dash and speedo running on the modern ECU and existing old loom, then run indicators and lights off the OEM stalks I already have on the car (check OEM wiring diagram and refit a replica of OEM loom to indicators using the current stalks) and for anything else such as radiator fans for example I can just wire up separately and add another toggle switch next to the other ones Dragn fitted for ignition/heater/powr steering pump etc.

Im really trying to not gut the car and do a chassis up rebuild which is big bucks and beyond my skillset (unless a friendly supplier is going to really support me fitting wise)

Ideally a garage will take it but obv its a pain in the ass job and no one wants to take it out, I cant sell it (3 years on sale no offers) so I geuss I will just have to battle through these challenges - just like i do when I mow the lawn or listen to my wife talk.

dunno yet good question, will try and make them look not too awful
