Japfest Silverstone Sunday 05/05/19

A quick thanks to those that turned up to Japfest. We had a great convoy in the morning, a good time at the event, and a great drive home through back roads from Silverstone.

I also managed to sell £22 worth of stickers to help fund the maintenance of this site. I know that the site is currently in the red on finances and @Matt has covered the cost of keeping it going for us. Some merchandise will hopefully be ready to sell in the near future as will new stickers that we can hand out at meets and events.

I got flag envy, what needs to be in the kitty for 2 of those flags like the gtr clubs had?

Also happy for a paid membership option / donate option

Let me take the feedback away and see if we want to do a donation to cover off the current losses, and then start a membership up a bit later in the year to allow us to fund the site, buy flags for events, book out rooms at hotels for track days or get togethers, fund food for meetups, etc.

I'd second that. We've got a great forum and group of people on it so it would be a shame to lose that.

Are you still thinking about the track day? What is your friend's name on here with the BW S366?

Paid for membership, With a members number (automated email, with username and fill name etc) would have saved me £50 on insurance last year.

I'd suggest testing the water with a donations area and see how it goes before enforcing memberships.... although i can imagine there are a lot of people who would be happy to do it (myself included), i can imagine there will also be a lot of people who wouldn't want to pay and the site may get a little quieter.

I will never enforce required paid memberships, I want the site to be as open as possible.

It's frustrating wanting to put more money back into the site when it's just not there. I'll look at setting up a 'site supporter' donation rank and see what people think. This would be totally optional :)

-£400 for those interested 😂

Yeah, like a gold member option,

If FDUK is still going (how i dont know) we can surely keep the lights on here.....

lets get saving, events organized ..... and fill the coffers

I know the fd scene is full of tight fdocers but a £10 annual membership is literally nothing if you own a fd. Drive you car 20 miles and you have probably just spent a tenner.

Keep it to funding: us to fund the site, buy flags for events etc. We can fork out for our own food/rooms etc, depending if we can make an event or not. Then you could make it cheaper and mandatory

As @Sacrilegious-FD said: If it saves money on insurance that cost may pay for itself. We also benefit from buying bits off each other so that saving also more than pays for an obligatory nominal fee of: £10, 20, £30 a year.

Site donations have now been set up and expire on 7s Day 2019. Let's hope we get to the target of £405 for this round of donations while we look into club memberships and other things going forward. Your contribution is appreciated.

Memberships are fine, but any membership would have to be a membership for access to certain areas of the forum... when i first joined the site before i purchased my FD, i came to gather information and learn about the car before i committed to buying one and i also kept my eye on the sales area for potential cars to purchase..
i cant imagine i would have done that if i had to pay a membership fee .... it's good to give outsiders limited access for things like this and also access to the sales area, as im sure there have been many members joining the site just to sell something.

I know it's not necessarily my place to say but maybe we should move this conversation about membership on a separate thread?

Yeah, chat about it on the donation page for now and then I'll collect the ideas and start a thread with a poll or something.
