Hi, I could do with help getting my emissions sorted on my car.
It’s just failed the mot due to them and as I have little experience with rotaries atm, thought it best to ask for ideas on what to do to rectify it.
I’ve had a look through old posts regarding emissions, but haven’t done anything yet.

I’m hoping to get it sorted ASAP as if not, I’ll be unable to attend jdm Combe next weekend.

Here’s a picture of the results attached.

Thanks

What year is the car?

Judging by the results you have some sort of cat on it?

Ok, then your car needs to pass the following, and for the benefit of everyone else cars 95 and onward need to as well.

Does your car have a standard cat or a high flow cat?

Standard ECU or aftermarket?

Go see Dave at Thames valley mot’s in reading. He has had an fd for 20 years and also owns a three rotor turbo - he knows his way around the cars so can do what’s required to pass without detriment to the car or map etc.

Well, it looks like your car is running rich at idle because it should pass on stock components.

Are you sure your ECU is not throwing any codes?

Are you sure your air pump is working?

Is your fuel pump possibly hotwired? If it is you will be rich.

Have you taken the cat off to look at the condition of the ceramic honeycomb?

Could be an ignition issue not burning enough fuel at idle.

Which spark plugs are you running leading and trailing?

Of course you can always get someone to pass the MOT for you, but given you have a stock car and it's notbpassing something is not completely right, so best to double check.

I will do my best to check everything as soon as I find the time

The spark plugs should be the ones meant for it, again I’ll try double check.

I would say start from temp sensors, this was my issue when i couldn't pass for emissions even on idle test with standard car, found later water temp sensors was gone.

Doesn’t look like he is asking for a bent MOT

+1

Turns out I’ll be working in reading from Thursday, and I’ll be on pretty much the same road as Thames valley mots so will pop in and see them.

I have the issue of getting my car there from Hampshire with no mot though, will have a chat and see if I can work something out 👍

You can drive with a pre booked appointment.

Can you drive 60 miles for an mot though?
I thought that although you can drive without it providing its to the test, it would have to be a close garage?
I've never seen any stipulation regarding distance. Personally id just do what everyone else does and just pay your mot guy a little extra to 'help you get through emissions'

I’ve had a look online, people have supposedly driven 300 odd miles to a test with no problem.
Will try run in Thursday to see them, and see if I can get anything sorted
