A long time ago (10 years) in a country far far away (Japan), there was an RX7.
Then, I imported it, bought it to the UK, drove it a little bit, then spent an awfully long time dicking about with it, doing lots of slightly odd stuff, and taking photos of it, looking like I might have driven it. Which I didn't much.
Anyways, then slightly grown up life happened, family things happened, priorities changed, and it sat in a garage for a 3.5 years.
In the mean time, FDUK went all odd and Photobucket turned into a shitty ad fest, so I can't be arsed to trawl most of my old progress. Sorry. Might do some day.

Anyways, then a gap in my other half's company cars has forced (;)) me to resurrect it for daily duties and transporting a 5 year old. Excellent.
So, basically, due to a combination of time, rats in the garage (what am I gonna do?), and selling the old IC, it looked a bit like this:

A bit of a downer when it used to look more like this

Time for recommissioning. Taking stuff apart revealed a bit of corrosion due to lack of use.

So this lot came off for a good clean and wash out

I'm not a big fan of shiny, so out came some VHT.

Much more better.

The old battery had unfortunately been left to go flat, so I had to stomach the cost of a new one.

Optima(s) approves.

So, Intercooler and turbo back in, new silicon, piped up.

A few things to do before I get it back on the road.

Now all done.

So I pulled both pump fuses, turned it over, built pressure, lovely.
Shoved them both back in, and it won't fire :( Lift pump seems to be priming, but I don't think the high pressure one is.
That's where I am now, scratching my head a bit though tbh. However, a look at the fuse box may appear to have given a clue. So I'm off to check a few circuit diagrams, and then try and jog my memory about all the dickaboutery that I did with the wiring...

Jeez if this is what children do for you then I’m never having any!!

Glad to see it being resurrected though. Top work so far.

Hahaha! Nah, it's not all about that (my lil dude is fucking awesome) but there were some quite major complications after he was born that made me refocus and reassess what was important in life, both in terms of time, and money. :) That combined with me rekindling my love for MTB and racing kind of meant the car took a back seat.
Is back on the agenda now though. Lil' SiH keeps bugging me to go in it :D

Haha yes children are awesome but you could actually kill them on times! When my daughter was around 3 she found a lump hammer lying round in the shed and decided she wanted to learn the art of dent removal by crating dents first! Now you can see why I say actually kill them! Little git! She's nearly 9 now though and knows right from wrong! Football by the saxo.....yes! Football by the fd.....NOOOO!

Right, so the most recent goings on are that I've been trying to work out why it wasn't priming. What I thought would be the issue (big vacant relay space in the fuse box) turned out not to be. I'd rewired it to a more hardcore external relay to give headroom for the current the 044 needed.

So, took it out, cleaned it up, wiggled it about... tada! I have priming!
Except now there's dribbling noise. And oh, what's that... a stink of fuel. And a massive puddle on the floor.
Coming from down by the FPR (which is, of course, at the bottom of the firewall on the passenger side ;) )
I haven't had a chance ot get it up in the air to have a look, but I suspect one of two things - either my resident garage rats have nibbled through, or I've fallen victim to the much documented Torques lines developing leaks with time.
Arse. Basically.

Have retreated and left the garage door open to air.

Torques lines? What is this witch craft??

Well, looks like my leak is not, as I thought, from a line, but from a failed fuel fitting
I suspect from the amount of play in it, an o-ring has given up.

Tbh a bit concerned as I've got a lot of the same brand used elsewhere.

Hmmm... Torques eh? That is rather worrying as I think I used them for a fuel lines, will have to check those when priming.

I've left mine to sit too, since having a baby its just been left buried in the garage at present, but deserves a dust and clean up like you are doing.

Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm definitely not going to blame the fittings yet. One of the things I've done since it's been parked up is change engine mounts, it's perfectly feasible I hadn't kept an eye on the line and had put strain on it in a hamfisted manner as a result.

I know that feeling Ben, changes your priorities a bit doesn't it?

Sure does give you perspective on things having a kid, but they do amazing things which makes it worthwhile.
The car is still there and I haven't given up on it, just decided to leave it until the time is right.

Thats good to hear about the engine mounts on yours (well not for you obviously) as I solid mounted most of my car, so its only road vibration to cause any strain. From memory the only smell I get is on a warm day, where the fuel vapour tank was removed.

But I'll check out the web for the other stories you mention.

Nice to see the car making its way on here mate! Still got the BBS wheels on it?

My car stinks of fuel whenever it's running lol I'm sure it's a combination of the fuel lines being non Teflon and the charcoal canister being capped off lol

Tom, you're almost on the money...
Well, I replaced the fitting above, primed the pump, exactly the same leak. And not a small one.

So, had a thought, and got stuck in with the spanners. Hadn't seen this for a while...
IMG_20180502_203319.jpg

Undid the feed line from the rail, dropped it out of the bottom of the car, and stick an AN bung in the end.
Primed the pump...

Hooray. It looks like the fuel lines have either gone massively porous, or, as I suspect is the case, perished under the braid.
I'm glad I haven't used them anywhere else.
Oh wait, they're on pretty much the entire fuel system.
I'm pretty narked.

That sucks mate! Rubber lined and not Teflon lined then?

Kunifer it is then! @Ceylon is the man for this, he loves it ??

At least you found out while in the garage, doesn’t bear thinking about if that happened while out.

Surely even braided hose should be equal or better than the Mazda OEM hose?!
