Ferrox’s 92 Cursed Nightfury track show build

Hi Guys, so as a fair few of you have already introduced yourself from my earlier posts looking for knowledge on these beautiful mythical beasts- I Have now bought mine for a fellow member in here. I’ve decided to start detailing the build and outlining what my plans are here-
Being a vehicle tech you’d think majority of this would be easy however with the niche nature of everything it’s literally learning almost everything again! why is this here what is this and why is this like have been most of my main outbursts

This specimen is a 92 type x manual conversion- 2 previous owners - light modifications (currently )
I’ve made my list of things I need to sort because let’s face it shes 30 and needs some maintenance! I’m known at work for doing too much maintenance which I’ve heard is good for these?

There’s a lot to do before we are track ready or even show worthy but I do love it already! (Bastarding thing is currently stuck at work)

First day back and I got underneath to see what was what, driving back there was a horrendous noise from the o/s which me and stu had been trying to work out what it was- due to the kakimoto wheels having screw wheel nut caps we though it could be these as it was the right sort of sound - so naturally I removed these and surprise surprise nothing changed!

There was a common sump gasket leak, input seal leak and prop shaft seal leak on the gearbox aswell as potential second turbo oil seal seepage- welcome to owning an old Japanese legend - no real sign of what this annoying ass noise was
funnily enough stu had mentioned the downpipe shield was free from the exhaust which could have been the noise but it didn’t sound like it from moving it around- however I could get it to proc the noise on our mot ramp shaker plates so it’s got to be under engine torsion, low and behold yes it’s the blood downpipe heat shield! HKS downpipe ordered

So with the 350z sold I now I have the funds for bits that need doing, due to the engine bay being a mess and a bit all of over the place I want to tidy up!
Not a fan of the itg setup with Oem rubbers so bought this off @Jit to help sort it out! currently going to be using next doors mop and polishing wheel to clean up some of these pipes

So after having to leave the 7 at work as didn’t want to drive with a coolant leak, finally got round to sorting it today, dropped the coolant so I could see what was going on! Funnily enough it was exactly as stu had said, whoever had done it before used the wrong screw driver and snapped the head off with the washer…..

Luckily enough after 15mins of searching I found a bolt bang on the size and thread pitch, drilled out a washer and plugged him back up!

Following on with a pressure bleed, thank the lord for a mitivac

Seems like I’m just having so really bad luck with this one

Just out the corner of my eye I noticed this patch where the sealant had broken away, not sure whether it’s the weather that’s caused it but either way it needed sorting!

Go go gadget Angle grinder with wire wheel attachment - cleaned up okay ish but with the way the panels meet it wasn’t ideal

So from my point of view looks like it’s been incorrectly jacked up and the panel seams have been split from it- oh yay! think he did mention that this tyre kept going flat

So I cut the bit of rust out best I could without trying to disturb too much, unfortunately the inner boxing had been caught by the rust so I wire wheeled that till it disappeared and I was left with clean metal- I’m not a professional welder as you can see but it’s got the job done- a small piece of 2mm thick steel and we are good to go!

So continuing on, one of these little bastards didn’t come out, tbh he looked crusty asf and I knew it wasn’t my day so had to make up a suitable replacement! Nice washer and nut combo and some quick welding- this should suffice!

So the real reason I was messing around with the headlight caps is because the previous owner lost of the lids and gave it a quick lock of paint?m, me being me needed to sort this as it was driving me crazy so I spent and hour faffing around sanding down the runs and taking off the paint ready for painting tomorrow!

Almost looks like venom!

This is osr quarter where the sill have been split from jacking up I’d assume

Headlamp covers painted! Really helps the look, I’m getting there, I’m still not happy keep adjusting them

So I bought these hks racing auction intakes off @Jit, they had damage from where assumably they’d been touching the front strut brace, this wasn’t going to do

Weld to fill in the damaged areas and a lot of sanding and polishing ahead of me why do I do it!

To this, minor help of a flappy wheel to take off the main course edges and thick of it

To this, going up the grades of abrasives to a point where I’ll polish it in next doors workshop

About 3 stages of sand paper later to build up to p1200 which is just something else

And finally autosol and wire wool ready for tomorrows polishing!

Nice work, now what about scuffing and powdercoating black then sanding off the HKS RS and buffing before clear coating?

Now that would look smart, only problem with polished bits is the amount of time it takes to keep them clean and polished and not oxidised.
