Ellz’s LsFd build

Few tidying up jobs today
Added a small fusebox to the rear of the car for the fuel pump feed and the exhaust valve power
Also chopped the strut brace to clear the intake manifold
Ordered some crackle black paint to cover up all the burn marks from welding

Paint arrived for the strut brace
I love crackle black cause it hides most of the imperfections/ bad grinding by me

took the car to the petrol station it drives alright but feels down on power over 3k revs so I’m gonna try and sort out the speed sensor so the ecu has a speed input which should help

Got hold of a Dakota digital vss signal converter so hopefully I can get the clocks working too

Got the Dakota box wired and with a lot of trial and error I’ve managed to get the bmw diff speed signal converted and talking to both the ecu and the dash speedo

hopefully this will sort some issues for me

also pulled the underside of the car apart chasing a rotational knock
Changed the prop bearing out for a new one
And the checked all the torque settings
Chased it down to the shafts being too short
Hopefully I can re work them and add about 10mm to stop the CV from running at its limit

also got coolant hoses to pipe up the heater matrix

never ends

So had a shit time this week
I plumbed in the heater matrix to I would have a demister
Unfortunately I think the heater matrix must have rotted out or something because while bleeding the system it dumped about 2 litres of coolant into the passenger footwell raining down onto the ecu and loom causing the car to run on 4 cylinders and at the time I thought the ecu was toast

I bought cat litter and rice and lifted up the carpet to try and dry it out
Made a frame for one of my floodlights to help the drying with some heat
Got some contact cleaner and sprayed the ecu plugs and ecu
The Delphi ecu is sealed luckily and the plugs blew clear

left the car out in the sun and it seems to have done the trick
No smell or squelchy floor

and most importantly the car runs on all 8 again

I’m not going to get another matrix because the thought of taking the dash out makes me very sad

I’m gonna get a 12vheater hobby to clear the screens in the mornings I think

I'm glad you manage to get all 8 boingers going again fair play 😂
My Mrs thought you'd gone shopping for your Mrs 😂
Best thing to do though, just bridge the pipes fuck it! Different if it's a daily and used in winter! Used to run the old 12v heater in our old punto shit box. Worked a treat on the windows 👌

I managed to get the heater matrix out and without removing the dash.
I followed a you tube video guide which made it a lot 'fricken' easier....

Loving this build
Definitely worth doing heater matrix when you have the motivation. You wont be doing all your nice work justice driving around with an ebay special 12v heater

Thanks dude I was thinking amazon special
But it would literally be to clear the screens in the mornings then back in the glovebox

What about the heated aftermarket windshields you can get ? - anyone with experience with these - seems a better idea to install one as not that expensive

They work really well, however everything else just steams up and yoou can't see out the sides of the car !

Took the car on the road today to the shops to pick up my chicken for tonight’s roast

The front geo is ruined at the mo and needs an alignment desperately
The cars running well though
Getting some diff noise in the cabin I guess from having it solid mounted but all in all a success
I’m getting some blue smoke on start up after some pulls so I think oil from the breathers is settling on the valve so I will make a catch can this week to help that

a friend had his fancy camera with him and took some nice shots of it
Enjoy
