cib24's 1999 Mazda RX-7 Type RS

think closer to £1,000 for the 5 days of labour, several passes for as defect-free of a finish as possible on all panels, ceramic coating all over the place, interior and engine bay valet, etc.
He's quite cheap really if it's only £200 a day labour and he is including the products. I think you will be paying more than you think ;)

Even though I think its a little mad to spend that much on a wash 'n wax ;)

The guy is even polishing and coating my wheel caps. Haha.

Cutting stages completed on bonnet, half roof and complete nearside excluding body kit and inner door sills. More of the same tomorrow and tackling other parts of the car.

Thought about it but have been looking for a FB as my next project. Pricey for cars in bad shape though.

I know it's crap ain't it! My mate offered me his fb 10 years ago for 80 quid!!!!! he doesn't want to let me have it anymore ? it's nice working on it though, it's actually a dream after working on the fd!

I would love a semi-PP 13b FB making 250-300hp in good shape.

Anyway, the detailer told me the paint is overall very good (lots of it too!). Some dust under the clear in an area or two but he rates it, so good job Jay. As for the stages of cutting he has been able to remove all of the sanding marks from the body shop and estimates the car will probably be 90-95% defect free when he's done.

Yeah, at this rate it will be over £1,000. I'm sure of it now. He's going all out everywhere as I understand it. I won't need to go this crazy for many years though if I just maintain the ceramic coat with regular 2 bucket method washing and such, so it should look great for a while.

You're fucking nuts Roy

Ha! Well, I'm the type of guy that is a bit OCD about my car...maybe not as OCD as Ceylon plating bolts and washers but close enough. I come from California where it's socially important for your car to look better than anything else you own, wear or are married to, ?

Haha I love this. How many gritters did you ever see in cally roy? I can understand being ocd on a car in america especially california as you probably don't need to wash your car for a year with all the sun ? I can guarantee I'll wash my car and then it'll either get mashed with grit or it would rain and I'd get stuck behind a tipper dripping mud from the trailer and flick it all over the car ?
But..... like you say, with the ceramic coat, it'll still look showroom after the 2 bucket wash ?

I even decided to treat my BMW E39 to a much less expensive and way less involved single pass enhancement detail by another guy I have used before (who is also quite a bit cheaper). By the time it is done it might be worth a bit more on the used market ?

My car has never seen salt or been stuck behind a gritter since I have owned it, haha and if it gets dirty from rain or a track day it is usually washed within 48 hours, lol.

Haha best way to be but surely you've got it out in the snow?
Haha you don't get much choice in Wales! If it's not a tipper its a tractor ?

Nah, in London snow doesn't usually stick around and generally I don't drive the car from about the beginning of December to Feb/March. During the Emma snow storm nothing was driven. Just tucked in the garage.

Haha I can't blame you tbh! That's why I have a saxo! Was built for the snow. Not that we had any ?

Some more paint correction today on the offside (driver's). Offside half of the roof, bonnet, front wing, driver's door and rear quarter panel. The driver's door was apparently very bad with the worst DA sanding marks from the body shop and a lot of random scratches. Bumpers, hatch, sills, etc. will be tackled on Monday. The clarity shown in the below photos will increase further once we gets to the refining stage of the polishing.

Before and after on different panels and the final one is showing the stage of clarity already with no orange peel.

It's sure looking good, still cant believe it has that many swirls in it to begin with, considering it was freshly painted last year.

Dude, it's because basically every single body shop cannot polish a car.

They can paint and add clear but I would advise you to never let them polish, and they kind of have to polish after applying the clear to smooth it out at least a little bit. This has happened every time I had a car painted, including this one and even out in sunny California. They simply don't know what they are doing.

On this FD I told the body shop to specifically not polish the car with more than one single pass of 2000 grit, and look what happened. The first time they painted the car the fucking guy tried to wet sand the car for a glass polish like you see in these photos and he burnt through the clear everywhere and DA marked the shit out of the car. The same thing happened with my botched respray criminal job from Super 7 a couple years ago. Burned through everything and marked the hell out of the car and blistered the paint.

Never ever let a body shop polish a car after painting. Take it to a pro. I waited until this detailer had his schedule free all through winter as I wasn't going to let an amateur touch it. You always have to book this guy several months in advance.
