Pads moving??

Since I had my new pads (ds500's) I've had a clunk under low speed braking.
So looking into it I see theres a small gap between the pad plate and the housing. I'm guessing the pad will move up under braking and cause the clunking sound.

Am I being daft or is this gap normal?

Did you not have some metal shims between your pads and the pistons?
I’ve just removed mine to be rebuilt, and the fronts had 2 shims either side of the pads (4 in total per caliper).

Not sure as I didn't change them, it'll be the last time I don't do it myself actually. Are the shims bigger than the back of the ferrodo pads?

I should mention they don't squeal at all, Just a clunk at low speeds like the pads shift upward

The link above is what I have in my calipers.
Who done your brakes? Can you get hold of them and ask if they still have them?

Looks like the springs are the wrong way round too, could this make a difference? I.e the shorter spring is at the bottom of the caliper rather than the top

No can’t see that would make any difference

couple of things you can try here firstly make sure your pads move freely in the caliper when the pistons are push back to make sure they aren't sticking, secondly champfer off the vertical edges of the pads (the leading and trailing edge) by 3 or 4 mm this will stop the pads grabbing until they are fully bed in. this last one may sound silly but ive had this in the past and at slow speed it would clunk when I cam off the brake peddle, put the chamfer on and the pads stopped grabbing.
