Boosting issues when hot

Ok so ive change the coilpacks/leads over to tested good used ones and im still getting the same issues.

Drove it 16miles and it was flawless doing hard pulls and boosting through first and second turbo, then i slowed down and started to boost again and it spluttered and pops until i lift off.

Also a stone flicked up and cracked my windscreen on the test drive😂 tis not going well

Time for AEM coils! lol

I dont think its the coils to be fair, it was clear my trailing coils were toast before but im thinking maybe something is sticking open or closed after i fully boost then bring the revs down

Just wondering if this could be the issue boost solenoid e.

This Does sound very simlar to my issue and the other day when i went out one of the solenoids plugs wasnt clipped in after my drive and it was at the front of the rats nest ( simplified nest so only a couple of solenoids left )

Ive clipped it back in since and its still playing up, this was before the coil and lead swap too.

Spluttering and popping doesn't usually relate to the boost control system ime, it's usually fuel or ign. Certainly its still worth trying all things and the soleniods are certainly problematic.

Does it idle ok when it's spluttering?

I'm thinking a secondary injector, possible loose plug or a damaged wire or something.

Idle is fine but when it starts to splutter and pop i lift off and it acts normal and drives fine unless i plant the accelerator or even push it a little till its boosting , then it splutters again and pops.

Maybe secondary injector sticking? assuming its mostly in higher rev ranges

Do you have a boost gauge? What sort of boost are you seeing when it happens

1 bar boost when its working properly and it did all morning until i drove home.

When i start to get on it and press the pedal to the floor any signs of boost it splutters and pops then i lift .

Nearly as soon as it sees boost it plays up .

This looks a bit suspect 🤔

So ive ordered a new fuel pump sock, and drained and cleaned the fuel tank out as much as i could for 2 hours 😂.

I think maybe what was happening was the sock was so blocked on the bottom side that when the tank went under half a tank of fuel then it couldnt suck up much fuel due to being blocked.

This is what im hoping anyway, we shal see when they arrive and i do a test drive.

Its crazy as that fuel pump and sock hasnt even been in there that long .

I had this same issue, turned out I had two solenoids that broke down when they got hot.

I pulled my solenoid vacuum box and stripped it down, vac tested cold and tester resistance all was fine and baked them in oven and re tested and two of them failed to work when applying 12v.

What does the inside of your tank look like?
It didnt look good to be honest ive drained the fuel out of it and scrubbed as much of the rusty dirt out of it and flushed it through a few times until the fuel come out the drain clean.

Ive got new fuel pump socks coming and a new fuel filter too even though it got replaced like a year ago im just guna change it again anyway to be safe.

Yeah it’s becoming a common problem now these rusty tanks. I’ve sold a few now to guys having this exact issue

I did have a look on ebay at another tank but mine seems to be in simlar condition, im assuming it never got cleaned from when the car sat for 8 years either so it was well due a clean.

It was mostly the top half of the tank which was a bit brown, but i gave it a real good scrub and flush, so hopefully it should be ok for a while now.

The bucket where the pump sits in was filthy , sludge at the bottom of it was grose.

Is it on stock intercooler, they may have lower fuel/boost cut when the inlet temps are high, have you got a hand commander?
You can check on there, doesnt sound like ignition or injection to me.
Possibly fuel pressure regulator as it wont make boost if its going lean but you can do a basic check on this stationary if it’s aftermarket.

if you do think its solonoids you can test them individually using 12volts and vac pipe or it can be easier to put a stock ecu on and when it faults a few times do a fault code read and it will often tell you the solonoid at fault.
