I am gathering up my list for Santa and one of the things I want to do is replace my seats. I desire four things:

1. A lower seating position
2. Must not hit the door cards at all
3. Reclinable
4. Bucket or semi-bucket to hold me in better

What have some of you used that worked for you? I know Tom Cullen and Martin17 have two options which are interesting which I will message them about.

Any other ideas aside from the overpriced Spirit R Recaros? I like these but it's a lot of cash for seats that need to be reupholstered.

I know pole positions aren't reclineable but they will be perfect for everyday use aswell as track, Sakebomb apparently are making a seat rail kit too which will be ideal, otherwise you can modify Nagisa Auto rails to make them fit.
My Bride's are amazing in terms of comfort and support but are difficult to get in and out of because the sides are so high, I've noticed the PP's aren't anyway near as high on the sides making them easy to slide in and out - probably why they're first choice for car manufacturers like Mercedes with their AMG GTR
Also I tend to mount my bucket seats slightly higher at the front than back, which is much more comfortable and to be honest don't feel like I'd benefit from having a bulky reclineable seat other than making it easier to get behind the seats!

With recliners your always gonna have size issues because of how bulky they are. Pole positions is what i would have bought had i not found my seats.

Why do you need recliners? Once the position is set that's kind of what you stick with it it not?

Or do you wanna chill with your tinnies?

Bride Stradia or Gias are a good choice - nice and low, no issues with touching the door card, reclinable. No quick release on the seat back though, so they don't allow easy access to the rear if that's something you need. The Gias have higher side bolsters, but the Stradia are lower, so getting in and out is no problem (my wife has a different opinion on that though!).

I've had a few different seats over the years so here's the order I would place them.

Standard seats.
Standard seats with reduced seat padding.
Pole positions - comfy once you get them set up perfectly for you.
Mazdaspeed seat - these run rings round all of the above and sit lower.
Rz seats - 're trimmed with proper tilt slide rails. ( yes I know you didn't want these listed but they are the best I've had in an fd)

There was a picture posted early this year of some nice Corbeau sportline RRS recliners in an FD that match your criteria.

I just cannot for the love of rotors remember the post or which member posted it.

I’m still keen to investigate Elise seats in an rx7. I had then in my Mx5 and loved them.

No not really, surprisingly good. I used the a lot at track days and autosolos and that was never really an issue

I was thinking of a reclinable seat for headroom reasons. I currently recline the standard seats a bit when wearing a helmet. I can't sit in a FD with buckets and a helmet as my head hits the roof and forces me to scrunch down uncomfortably.

However, if there is a non-refundable seat that genuinely sits lower it might work.

Do you sit lower in these? They look like a good fit but don't have much bolstering in the legs or shoulder area. Although I am not after super high bolstering.

These will 100% be lower. When I had them in the Mx5 I had the same issue with a helmet and the hardtop. With these in it gave me another 4 inches easy.

With my standard rx7 seat I also suffered from the seat not going far back enough, low enough too. I have now gone to a Recaro PP and it’s brilliant. Loads of head room and legroom. Only downside is they aren’t cheap haha

My setup might be a bit extreme for you but proves that it's possible for a 6'4" person to wear a helmet and have lots of legroom. You should have plenty of viable options. In my experience finding good mounts was key, as many out there gave me less space in my bucket than the stock seats and rails.

Still cheaper than Spirit R's.

Anyone have pics of the Pole Positions installed?

But your seat is effectively bolted to the floor in place right? Or do I have that wrong? Remind me of the seats and supply photos please?

It's on Atomic Rex mounts so is fixed with no slide or tilt. My seat is a Cobra Suzuka (the wider GT version). It just touches the door card, but that's the trade off for someone of my size.

If I were going to do it again I'd probably get a seat with lower sides that's a bit less buckety, but it took plenty of research last time to find a seat that would be both comfortable and fit within the width restrictions of the car.

I'll add photos to this post later.
