The car has basic stage 1 mods to the motor. Probably pushing around 310. So not heaps
She also has new pillow balls, poly bushes, track rod ends...everything down there that can be replaced, has been replaced; along with some Teins.

Current set up:
Front: 10k spring rate. 17x8 et32 225/45/17 (very old tyres)
Rear: 12k spring rate. 17x9 et38 245/45/17 (budgets)

I'm not after hella flushed but i won't want it sunken in either.
What do people suggest?
Whats the optimum tyre widths for a package like this?

(i have an arch roller for tucking lips only (no flares though)

Going by what i have on there at the moment i was thinking (with a lip tuck):
Fronts: 18x8.5 et35 225/40/18
Rears: 18x9.5 et35 255/35/18

Not a lot of reason to change it for performance reasons tbh.

I have 17s, 9 front and 9.5 rear and won't be changing. I tried 18s and didn't like them but I've got used to 17s no doubt.

Arr ok. Thanks for the quick response.

I'm in need of new tyes and it got me rethinking the whole set up

you can run the stock 235 and 255 setup. The 225 and 255 will also work. You can get 18x10 et35 all round with 255 to get a more agressive look under stock arches.

Right now your in desperate need of better tyres. Mps4 or Mpss can be an option alongside the ad08r. Even budget semis like 595 rsr will feel better than the budgets u have on there atm.

I went out and got pilot sports (not cup) and I really like them. Bags of grip and also I know if I was in the rain I won't be crapping my pants like I would when I had ad08r.

What's a good tyre for the stock 17"s? My rears are getting close to the limit.

All good for dryer weather, for all rounder including wet weather i would buy mps4 or similar.

i had ad08
Was it the ad08 or the ad08r you had Nas?

I personally found the ad08r very grippy in the dry and equal to my previous 888s and also slightly better in the damp although nothing as good as a proper road tyre for wet.

defo ad08r - OP suggested he might end up on a wet road. with that in mind i would say pilot sport would beat the yoko hands down.

I did a 1000 mile welsh road trip a couple of years back, and one of the days in the morning there was just damp (no puddles) and i was trying to keep up with the others (in m3's / vags) and my arse was twitching like a rabbits nose the whole time. Another occasion back when i had no abs, i was on a damp road, the traffic lights ahead changed suddenly, and i didnt even try to brake hard and i locked up, let go, then locked up again and ended up going through the red. Luckily there wasnt anything coming.

in the dry though ad08r is decent, its cheap, great performance. but like i say if it looks like rain then dont bother cos this tyre is a ditch finder in that situation.

now on the Pilot sports, i spent extra then i normally would have done on tyres, and im glad i did, after a couple of thousand miles on them and im really impressed, even on a soaking wet road when hard braking / acceleration, the grip isnt deminished unless you really mean to.

in the dry they are probably on par with an ad08r, i noticed i used to get rubber residue after a drive on the side on my rear quarters doesnt seem to happen as bad with the pilots, maybe they might last longer.

I have PS4's on my daily they're certainly a very good tyre, good in dry and wet.

I've gone for RSRs on my FD as they're much better for dry grip, although I will be avoiding the wet weather in my FD if possible.

Yep I'll go with all that, the mps4 throughout most of the car forums seem to be the outright champion for wet/dry/ British conditions.

I used to use the original v groove eagle f1s for fast road use and never had a problem with them especially in the wet. Nowadays though i only go for country blasts on dry days and again rarely tbh. My tyres are used for cruising at legal speeds to and from trackdays, god that sounds like such a middle aged thing to say.😥

lol I thought AD08r's were supposed to be good(ish) in the wet?

I'm gonna buy some to try at some point!

I've got that photo of the wet day at croft and that was on ad08r's. I was still pushing on well with them but obviously throttle control is amplified massively. I didn't find them too bad really and heaps better than my previous 888's in those particular conditions.

I think on public A roads with cambers, holes, white lines, and surface changes all semi slick track focused tyres would be a challenge.

Mps4 tread looks like a road tyre that with some exceptional R&D performs like a track tyre, that's the big difference here i think.

Rainsport 3's are awsome for wets. even on track,

I was mappnig Stage 2 golf tsi and had to test that the 155mph speedlimiter was removed (on a track obvs) LOL.
This was with nankan ns2-R in the snow.......... yup Sketchyiest thing ive EVER done.

I don't think they do MPS 4's in a 225/50/16. Lower the profile to 45? What's the widest I can go on a stock Mazda wheel?

Turns out MPS 4 does not come on a 16" rim at all. What the next best option? I need to buy 4 tyres. Continentals? Or I'll be trying one of these, which is best in the wet?:
