Oil change - maybe a stupid question

Hi,

I’ve owned my fd for nearly 12 months now and it’s time for the first service. I have all the bits to change the oil (oil, filter, sump plug & washer).
Now for the potentially stupid question, is it ok to run an engine flush through the system before draining the oil? Car is still on omp and I don’t premix (yet).

TIA

I personally wouldn't use it regular oil changes should be good enough to keep the system healthy I'm pretty sure your meant to change the oil every 3 months or so many miles due to petrol getting into the oil I know mine stinks of petrol and I've done about 300miles in mine since getting it on the road someone correct me if I'm wrong I'm still new to all this hope that helps a little bit

I do mine every year but I only do about a thousand miles a year!
I think personally I wouldn't do more than 10 thousand miles a year on good oil without a change!
A flush would be fine! With things like that it's no different to a piston ? engine!
I usually just shove any shit in my car for a year ?

Don't put engine flush in. Just change the oil. If you are concerned then change the oil once and run the engine for like 10-15 minutes, and change it again.

12 months! I do mine every other month when in regular use, for the little cost and time it takes to change the oil and filter it's worth doing more frequently

Same when its summer! I have a batch of oil and filters in the garage :ROFLMAO:

Im the same, I've never done more than around 5k when i was using it on the road more regularly. Nowadays ill change it about 2-3 times a year depending how many trackdays i can get to. Also ill usually leave the same filter on every other change as the filters i was binning were still like new. Still using carplan or similar mineral.

Yeah that's not a bad shout when it's 2 to 3 times a year. It's like pissing in the swimming pool.... although it's not good practice, it doesn't really make a difference ??

Aren't oil threads always fun ? tbf I think tom is just anal about his oil changes ? once a month is like them people on tv that clean they're toilet then swab it to see how much bacteria is left on the rim ? haha now nik has gone, someone has to take his place ??

3k or 12 months for me. I wouldn't bother with a flush unless she's been standing a while.

:ROFLMAO:Not sure this is the right forum to be talking about swabbing rims

I never flush, and tend to keep the same filter every two changes, changes every 3k. I'll spot check the oil too and change it if it's getting too diluted.

Thanks all I’ll give the engine flush a miss and see how the oil looks when it’s out. Prob only done 2-3k of fairly sensible driving so not too worried about monthly changes. If I track the car then the changes will become more regular

From what I gather and half decent brand is ok, it’s in there such a short time before being binned. I think I got a Bosch one from eBay

On a completely different note, next door had a car in with an over reved engine. Spun the flywheel and front pulleys off. They bolted everything back on and the engine ran, but like a bag of shit ( not a 5 month old car with 3k on the clocks). After many attempts to fix the engine they gave up and dropped a new one (mileage unknown) in, this pissed oil all over the place from the oil filter. Oil filter had collapsed and was completely blocked.
Solution - take the oil filter out the screwed engine and drop that in, send car for first service at 10k, then put it up for sale :(
Some poor sucker is going to get a real bargain with this.
