I dropped by the Classic Car Show at the NEC at the weekend and it occurred to me there were lots of clubs showing off 90s JDM metal but not an FD in sight. Has FD:UK / MROC ever been there or has anyone thought about getting one for FD:OC next time it comes around?

Edit: If this is the wrong place for this then someone feel free to move it

I had relatives there and they said the same.... I've been before and the only club really there is the Supra one.
I'd be up for pushing the Classic Scene harder if no one else is interested. It would be good to have a decent presence at the Classic Car Show and the Silverstone Classic Shows.

They had them almost all in a corner this year. MK IV Supras, 300ZXs, 3000GTs and a couple of Skylines hiding elsewhere. I'd be happy to push the classic scene a bit more too! (as long as we can ban people putting mirrors to show off how much they don't drive their cars on the ground from the stand)

HAHA For Sure.... The underside of my car is just black with waxoyl anyway... not pretty.... I'd just love to show off how good these cars are in the standard form. Save things like Japfest for the modded scene.

Yeah, for sure.

That said, there were modified cars there but they were all in the spirit of the stock car so we could call it OEM+ cars or Mazdaspeed / factory option parts on the exterior ideally.

I'd be up for it if my 2002 FD would be welcome being quite a late one? Not sure what their cut off for "Classic" is.

Really need to get on and get my '92 done, that would qualify for sure :D.

I dont think the year will be an issue... I think its the model that becomes a classic and doesn't matter if we have a late version or not.

For those who have never been to the NEC Classic this Youtube video is worth a watch.
The " presenter" is a bit marmite. He is an exhibitor so took this video before the doors opened to the public. When the doors open the place is heaving.
Y'all want to think about what you want to get out of a presence at the show. Club stands are free, but I don't know what is the criteria for getting one and how big it might be. Some bigger clubs obviously have spent a lot on their stands. Are you prepared to man a stand for three days. Answers on a postcard

HAHAHA

Yeah the thought of standing there for 3 days is not a nice one.... I guess it depends on the sort of stand we could get etc.
I don't think we should dismiss it just yet

Ive shown there with another club in the past, it works out a little expensive if you have to book hotel for the duration but it is a good show.

I can get contact info etc.. if you need it?

You need to book almost now to get into next years if i remember rightly and book hotels very early for an ok price

I'd say plan for 2020 if we are going to do it... I can help with stand design and build if required.
Wonder if Mazda would be interested in it?

Looks more of a concours car type show than a modified car show from all I've seen? Or are they just not on the website etc? Only a small portion FD's are like that!

Yes we would only really want original cars on the stand.... which like you say, isn't many these days :)

Doesn't look my cup of tea that. I like to go to shows to see what people have done with their cars. I can appreciate a really clean stock car but 20 bone stock examples of each car doesn't interest me personally.

Feel free to make enquires @Hooskworks would be good to get some FDs there (y)

Not sure mine would qualify as a 'classic' now but id be up for coming down for a day. Not sure about 3 days though!

That's one thing I really like about FD's. You never find two the same, even so-called stock ones :D.

Like I said bud I do enjoy a super clean stock car but I think if the club is gonna do shows me personally would rather attend shows that allow modified cars and have more to look at.

below should be the link to allow you to apply for a spot

You don't normally know if you have a space or not until after May. As for costs, the stand is free, but that it. Everything else costs, so it all depends on what you want.

When i have done this show we normally have carpet fitted because it makes it look better and keeps your feet warm, the carpet is normally between £200 - £300 depending on size and you can order many different colours. They send out a form for discounted carpet, which is good enough. If you think that you need electric etc, then it starts to become very expensive.

If you are thinking of doing it, book hotels now, get them on a free cancellation, but i can guarantee that the prices will be high. If you can get a support car, then you can be a bit further out and drive in each day, with free parking.

the cars need to be there from Thursday to Sunday.
