Let's talk tyres

Running AD08r all around. Amazing dry grip....death wish in the rain....don’t seem to wear as quick as others I’ve used before

The only down side to the mp4 is the softer sidewall, i had to go 3 clicks up on my ohlins damping all round to get that ad08r/r888 turn in feel, dry braking felt almost identical to the previous semis ive used like rsr/ad08r/r888 however wet braking/damp braking the mp4 truly excelled. Overall its a good compromise tyre for trackday. The way i see it is track days are all about fun not laptimes. I would recommend it for UK track days specially if it turns into a wet/damp track day. Makes the fd more useable in all conditions not just dry.

If you've got serious skill as a driver and are chasing laptimes then i agree with jdmr neil and recommend looking at track day tyres.

Don't they do the regular PS4 in 17" but not the PS4S in 17"? Also, I can't imagine these would be any good on a track day?

Thats right they only do the ps4s in 19" and above. The ps4 is a good compromise tyre for the occasional trackday user. The PS4 is a not a great tyre for all out dry traction but one of the better compromises to an all out track tyre.

The ad08r is great for dry weather, wear is good too and I do like this tyre a lot. PS4 is similar to the ad08r in dry. I can only speak for myself and my experience, my laptimes in similar conditions were slightly faster surprisingly on PS4 than ad08r. IIRC i was lapping llandow in 48.4s on ado8r. On PS4 it was 48.1s. Pretty much identical times but the ps4 looked fairly new after the trackday was over where as my ad08r had clear signs of wear.

However the ad08r due to the much stiffer sidewall feels better under turnin. This is where the ps4 feels a bit soft.....however in drenching wet conditions i was still pulling 52-53s at llandow where as people running serious trackday tyres had to pack up and go home. A couple cars on ad08r were running in the 1m06-09s range. This is by no means a fair comparison as different cars/drivers but overall in wet conditions the track tyres showed a significant drop off in performance. I felt bad as some of these guys had great trackcars and I was looking forward to seeing them go full chat on track but they coughed up their losses due to poor track conditions and went home.

I am currently running the ns2r they seem pretty good on the road and pretty stiff, they will be tested on track in two weeks time.
On previous cars I have run rsr's and found them great on the rx8 but not so good on the Boxster so I am looking forward to testing
these ones out.

This is a good video to show some examples of tyres japanese high end fd's are using.

Ado8r feature heavily but I suspect is very biased toward tyres available in Japan.

Just looking at tyre options and seeing a lot of love for the Michelin PS4s.

Only thing is they only seem to be available for 17s as extra load. Is that what everyone is running?

I bought a set of westlake rs tyres this year as alot of the drifters i know use them absolutely brilliant in the dry havent really had a drive in the wet as i tend not to drive when its raining as i tend to usually kill myself lol
