Quick one, does anyone know if the stock JDM downpipe is mild steel or stainless? I have been gifted some of that itchy heat wrap material, and I'm hearing its best not to wrap mild steel as it will rust and fall to bits...

Thanks

It'll be fine for a good while if it's cleaned up first. The top section is cast and lower part is steel. They usually have a factory heat shield installed, making wrapping less necessary. The factory shielding works well if intact.

Good to know, I didnt really think about that factory shield thing around the pipe. I will inspect it and leave it be if its still in-tact. If it is degrading a bit then I'll tear it off and wrap it or make a shield for it - I've got some proper ceramic/aluminium exhaust shielding material which might do an even better job at moving the heat down the exhaust system than a wrap.
