Interesting smell quirk...

Right this is definitely a quirk and not a problem but wondered if anyone else has experienced it...

So when I bought the beaut in June it smelt good inside but I went and bought a few of my favourite blue jelly bellies to dot around. Smelt lovely for a few weeks, and then it went which Is normal. But it didnt continue to smell a bit like jelly belly, or even a bit like car, or damp... It smelt like the air freshener that was in it when it bought it.

Fast forward to now - I've since had many more blue jelly bellies, and have even had the interior out since November - it STILL smells like it did when I bought it! Don't get me wrong it smells nice, but I wanna know how! Lmao. Is it possibly something in the carpets or seats? Seats have been out and thoroughly wetvacced...

Pre s8 FD's all smell the same, it's the material the carpet is made from. S8 fd's have a different, thinner carpet to save weight and don't have a distinctive smell.

Ah... Like how older Ford's smell like sick at least it's not a bad smell I suppose. Thanks.

You can use a freshener that steams into the carpets, some of the local garages round us have them on the vacs. Or you can buy a machine to do it but i cant remember what they are called

I used a vax cleaner three times before I refitted the carpet and after a couple of weeks the FD smell was back so I guess
its here to stay.

Might be wrong but i always thought its an oil vapour smell, i noticed after changing which oil i used theres a slightly different smell in the interior after a few runs. Halfords stuff smelt sweeter for the record, ive also tried air fresheners which dont last long but dont mind the smell of it.

I'm with you on this, I put a black cherry air stick in my fd 9 years ago and a fresh one about 4 years ago and it still smells of it! Though I do remember tom saying about the stuff they use in the interior on the earlies when he jumped in mine and said he could smell that! Maybe the air freshers are like a placebo and we're not really smelling our air freshers but we think we are!

'Luminati I have already learnt to like it to it's not much a problem.

@tomCTR I only get fuel smell if been hard on boost, but I'm still running air pump etc

I was told its to do with the glue they use for trim covering and carpets etc. Might not be true, but all old jap cars smell like it in my experience
