I broke it quickly...And repeatedly...Chaste White Rebuild

Cheeky little shot from Stu of the boost pipes coming together for the Holset.

Stole a shot I saw on Facebook from a previous owner.

Hi all,

Car came back Friday night which is nice.

Final spec is half bridge, studded and balanced. Link ECU, 4”inch exhaust, HX50 turbo on Greddy manifold, Greddy wastegate, AEM coils, AEM water/meth, twin plate Exedy clutch refurbished by CG Motorsport, 540 Bosch pump, 1050 primaries and 1650 secondaries, Fuel Labs FPR, new rails and fresh engine loom.

Stu also did some other bits for me, brakes and pads. New fuel lines, fuel tank, bushes for rack, track rod ends and likely some bits I’ve missed.

We’ve had a few little teething issues with the Holsets oil requirements. We’ve had to fit a restrictor to oil feed as the engine makes such high oil pressure , Holset state no more than 55psi on average, we are anywhere from 60 psi hot to over 100psi cold, also Holset suggest a 19mm oil return as standard but currently 10AN which I think is about 16mm, issue is of course it reduces smaller again back into engine. It is potentially using a bit too much oil due to this, just need to monitor really but I think I’m going to fit a larger return anyway.

Just a few jobs to do, fit Sparco seats, purchase a Windows tablet for live data, fit my AEM boost gauge, sort a decent air filter and wrap down pipe.

Other than that all good, been running it in, probably done about 150 miles on top of what Stu did. I have a 7k limiter and 12psi boost, it goes quite well as it is. Feels quite quick to be fair. The big old Holset seems well suited, easily making positive boost by 4K and likely not breaking a sweat until it’s sees 20psi. It should make for an entertaining package. Mapping is Sunday all things being well.

Will get some vids on the rollers.

Nice mate! Good to get it back! 👍🏻

lorry turbo ftw 😂

Truck turbo seems to be pretty good, even better considering it was like £250 and brand new. It was the only part on the car you could potentially class as “budget” if you were to compare to the latest Garret and Borgwarner offerings anyway. To be honest it was mostly chosen as it was a straight fit on Greddy manifold without any fettling or clearance needed.

good times man! 👍🏻

Wrapped down pipe today, anything to keep temps down. Mad how much heat these generate.

Also started to fit Sparco seats, the rails I bought from Julian at Pro4m are spot on, should be just enough adjustment to get them how I want them.

The shoulders are a tight fit but should be fine. They are a much better driving position, the OE seats are too high in my opinion. Sadly I need some slightly longer bolts, nothing in my stash that fits so had to go back to OE seat until I can get to the fasteners.

I’m going to sort a oil catch can tomorrow, is it standard practice to leave the two ports of the filler cap venting to atmosphere?

I fitted one seat today, it was a cunt. Managed to pretty much dislocate my thumb in the process. Lol ! The passenger side can wait.

What is everyone doing for steering wheel? I’d like a 350mm one ideally.
