Just a quick thread after reading Liamc111's thread on oil temps and didn't want to hijack it.

I see that the highest oil temps you want to run is about 98C and not over 100c
Ive got the twin oil coolers and i get temps around 102-106c when cruising in 5th at around 2800rpm
As soon as i pull it out of gear and let the engine idle whilst around 70mph it comes down after around a minute of idling to around 89c-92c
When sitting in traffic it goes up to 112c but no higher, coolant never goes above 93c

Im currently using halfords 20w-50 mineral oil with OMP and im going to do an oil change with the same to see what happens.
Was wondering if its just the cheap oil, or fuel dilution as its done around 1500 miles since last change (heavy idling)

Edit: It was baking hot today!
Any thoughts, tia

Ooof you're right there! I washed monty earlier, turned out even more dirtier than when I started purely because the soap dried before I got to rinse it 😂

So glad to have AC in my car but I have twin oil coolers and in traffic they shoot up to 100-110 C. On the motorway about 80-90 C in this weather.

AC would have been nice today haha, good to know you see similar temps in traffic, i'm going to put fresh oil in and see what temps are on the motorway i think.

Might be a bit of gunk in the coolers themselves reducing their effectiveness a little. Not like these cars are spring chickens and had plenty of time sitting around.

May give them and the lines a flush through then, i know that it sat on axle stands for a few years in its life before i bought it

20-50 is a bit thick tbh that won't be helping. I won't go any more than 10-40. I used 15-40 years ago and thought it darkened much quicker.

I agree most people run 10 or 15 w 40 so I'd go for that and see if there are any changes, well it will change it will run cooler.

Cool, I'll try another thinner oil then. I'm coming up to japfest Donnington so I'm definitely going to change it before then, cheers.

I wouldn't worry about oil temps being above 100C in low RPM driving and traffic. It's not the same as having 110C+ temps on track at WOT and 7-8k RPM constantly.
