What are people doing with their boxes when running over 500?

I have an 8HP but decided against that as they’re lame.

Could do a CD09 swap but comes in about 4K for parts.

What other options are there for improving the FD box or fitting a better one
 
Cd00a is the route I’ll eventually take.

I’m at 850bhp and 510lbft, currently using stock box with OSG kit but having issues with jumping out of gear which is currently being investigated.

To do cd00a properly you are looking at least double that including new rear end set up etc. I’ve recently priced it up using Ronin rear end with 8.8 diff plus all the Fisch kit and other bits and pieces you need to complete install and that’s minus labour.

I’m only planning on running low to mid 500’s as it’s going to be a track car so hopefully I can get away with abit of a cheaper option.

I think when you’re getting to that price point I’d just go Samsonas 6 speed dog box in it.

Cars got a Studded full bridge with a GT4094 currently and was running big power, but I’m planning on simplifying the car with a smaller turbo and trying to make it somewhat reliable.
 
I’m at 505fhp and the stock box cannot take it. On its 2nd gearbox with the first being rebuilt twice and the second box now needs 5th gear synchro. I was looking at the cd09 but not looking to spend £7-10k on gearbox swaps.

I was looking at Samsonas too and even with that swap you are looking at £12k.

HGT sequential is about £15k landed plus labour.

Grannas Magnum swap is £12k plus labour.

Quaiffe have a few options - again £10k range.

Unfortunately there isn’t a cheap swap out there really. CD00a/9 is probably the most cost efficient. The good thing about this swap though is once done IF you broke the box you can get brand new OEM ones for about £2k, the others all need maintenance and cost a lot more if shit goes wrong.

I’ve spent a long time researching various options.

Interesting - must be the difference in how people drive as I was running stock box at 670hp and it was perfect, it was even coping with 3rd gear 10,500rpm pulls, I’m sure I would of had issues eventually but I actually regret swapping it for this OSG kit. 😂

Is your OS box broken? Would you be selling it once removed as that could be an option for me as I’d be running a lot less power than you

I don’t think the box itself is broken, they are inspecting it this week so will hopefully know more by end of week.

OSG themselves claim the reason it’s jumping out of gear is due to the casing flexing. Which is likely the cause. I’ve purchased a bottom brace but im sceptical just how good that will be.

It does it at peak torque of around 6k rpm in both second and third.

In the meantime I’m having the diff braced, gearbox itself braced plus solid engine mounts to keep it all solid, straight and true. Oh, also fresh poly mounts for the diff itself.

If this doesn’t solve the issue and the gearbox company cannot find anything wrong with the OSG then yes, the box will be for sale.

Just did a quick google for the H pattern Samsonas. From the three sites I checked looks like £5500 plus VAT so close to £7k plus shipping. If you have a link to anything cheaper please share.

5500 euro but Iv just read the page properly and guessing that’s the price for the 4 speed tho. Spoke to Stu at rotor torque and he says it’s a fairly simple install and uses a lot of the oem parts.

Edit- didn’t realise it was plus VAT!!!

It’s the HR CD009 I reffering to. Been told I can get a box (2nd hand) for a grand and then the conversion kit is around 3k. But will probably need to change the diff to better suit the ratios.

The guy who is sorting my car has the same box in his and is using the Fisch conversion stuff and quoted me 3k for it all + 1k for the box, but that could be abit of mates rates in there I’m not too sure.

8HP swaps are so bent tho. I have everything for a 8HP swap but I’m going to sell it as I’d rather struggle with a manual.

Iv got an M3 so if I wanted to drive an auto I’d just drive that.
