Time for a full oil change, and to make it all go smoothly on the day, can anyone confirm the spec for any replacement crush washers?

The FSM talks about replacing gaskets, which I presume are washers... I'm just not sure the size and material (e.g. copper, aluminium, etc.).

It also mentions replacing the drain plugs themselves, is this really necessary?

Any help appreciated, not done this before.

Any handy hints on how to physically get the oil into the gearbox and dif would be good too... I'm looking at an eBay hand pump, but you guys may know a better way.

Thanks!

Can't confirm spec on them at a guess i'd say M14 on both, but the drain plug washer on my gearbox is ally, the drain plug washer on my diff was soft copper. If you were going to replace either id say go copper or dowty seals. If your diying it without a hand pump remove the gearknob, centre consol and the rubber noise/heat gasket and you can fill with a funnel and hose. As for the diff i have done it before with a long lenth of 10mm copper through the wheel arch with a funnel. I now own a handpump, its worth the investment as you can't get in with the bottle on either off them.

Great. I'll probably get a selection then of washers, copper and ally.

What pump did you get, there's a few designs on eBay, cheap as chips too.

Those pumps are useless, gear oil is too viscous. Just pop the tunnel trim up and use a long length of hose through there into the box, then a nice big funnel and let gravity do its thing.

How would you go about filling the dif?

Engine is M14, can't remember gearbox, prob the same, either the fill or drain is taper though and doesn't need a sealing washer
Copper Ally dowty, doesn't matter they all do the same job.
You can get away reusing them most of the time. no need to change the plug unless its damaged.

I've got like a big syringe thing for doing the gearbox and diff, but TBH its a bit of a mess, I'd prob go for big flexible pipe and funnel option next time

I used to use the eezibleed kit and a spare wheel for air, takes a while but always seemed to be the cleanest option (still could be a little messy).

Make sure you read the instructions though, there is a max pressure and you can have the oil squirt out of the lid if its over !
