Has anyone ever made a mesh frame and fiberglassed where the map pocket lid goes and smoothed out the wing mirror adjuster switch im removing my panels again as the carbon dip thats currently on there has peeled off due to the hot weather weve had and im going to have a go at doing the above a d repainting with a decent paint ill make a thread about it just after some input so in effect ill be making it all one smooth piece bar the window switch and door release

Worth a try and certainly a nice cheaper option of doing it! I think it'll work nicely

So this is where I'm up to at the moment i cut the bottom of the pocket off the map pocket section made a mesh frame to get the basic shape i wanted left that to dry over night now I'm currentlyusing some filler to smooth it out and hopefully should be ready for some paint later today if i can get it smoothed

Should i get it covered in leather or alcantara? Or just paint it

Depends on how good the final finish is, if its good just paint it, if not cover in leather. An interesting project, looking forward to seeing the finished item installed

Think its gonna have to be leather as its difficult to build it up and shape it to fill that gap especially when theres nothing to pack it out so ill just get some foam and leather see how that goes

So its all ready and smooth managed to make it fit alot better than it did at first going to primer it later if the rain ever stops and hopefully give it a few coats of satin black tomorrow then move onto the rest of the interior

So after me spending the past few days tryng to get everything as smooth as i possibly can it turns out my plastics are knackered as i started to paint them black you can see where they've been sanded down previously and there are loads of flat spots it looks like its been carved from wood with a chisel so they're ready for the bin so i might just fork out and get some lrb door panels as my passenger one is all cracked on the inside also atleast it will tidy up my interior

I think I'd be tempted to make a cushioned armrest to replace the map pocket in that situation. It's all about the comfort .

That was ive been thinking off doing so its similar to the centre console one but the plastics are all ruined now

Try high build primer and 400 wet and dry , work ip the layers from there. Prime, flat, black, flat - repeat as required
