Hi guys,
A few years ago i had an engine rebuild, ever since its felt like its not ran right or to its full potential with all my supported mods....i have ran it in smoothly along with new plugs, oil and filter, i was told by a few others its because its running on a rich map due to running in process, however it starts on the key when hot! it really struggles to the point my new battery nearly dies starting it. On full chat it feels like its holding back with abit of a splutter, then it pulls for a second then splutters, since iv been down the single turbo route iv not had the full enjoyment out of the power as i thought i would, without sounding stupid i was abit like..’is that it...?,..im running a gt35 setup, not the biggest turbo but i feel surely its got more in it. i want to upgrade all my oem ignition anyway to smart coils, im running a stock fuel pump too as was told its good upto 500bhp... im no tuner and for the past year or so iv been concentrating on the exterior of my car, but the car is capable of so much more, im guessing this is down to the map, says its at 0.8 bar too🤷🏼‍♂️ The motor sounds healthy, and pulls well when it wants to..im thinking of..;
new smart coils,
Uprate the fuel pump
New plugs and service
Map

this has been like this since rebuild, its also running 550cc prim
1680cc secondarys..
Everyone reccomends stu/ jaydee, how much can a map cost etc.. fill me in.?! Might be a coil breaking up?.note: Iv replaced plugs about 4 times in space of 2 years with hardly much milage, fresh fuel helps...not running premix either...
Cheers

I’m no expert but I would definitely swap out the fuel pump for a Walbro GST450 or bosch 044...they aren’t that expensive either. And while you’re at it wire it to the battery with a relay

Does this need to be mapped in?....and is this easy to install?...cheers

Yeah what hayden says. Need an uprated fuel pump, stock one is not good for 500bhp.

If you've not had it mapped since running in then definitely needs mapping, your car should run right.
Yea il get on it today ordering a new pump, cheapest i can find is £160 from demon tweeks, i heard theres alot of copies so il order through a genuine company, then il have to write to stu/jaydee and get a map done, im still thinking smart coils to help improve the ignition....im no guru when it comes to this so any help is appritiated..cheers

Whats the context of the rebuild, was it during your ownership? The car would only run a rich map if someone mapped it to do so at the time. Was the car running the GT35 before the engine build?
As others said, stock fuel pump isn't up to the task of high power.
I'd find the root of the problem first though before throwing money at coils etc I'd get the car to Stu+Jay as a priority, they can give it a quick look over to diagnose, and hopefully just conclude you need mapping.

Sometimes it's a lot cheaper to just hand it to experts to get it all performing properly than just keep on changing things based on Internet advice.

Not always, but i have been down this road.
Yeah ring stu, ask him what you need to buy. Whether you need coils, and book in for a map
