Coolant temp gauge dilemma

I've just found out that the stock coolant temp gauge is not linear: RX7club Coolant Thread

When the gauge is at 9 o'clock, the coolant temp could be 65-110 Celsius, which greatly increases the risk of it being too late to pull over during a coolant failure.

I'm probably the only one who didn't know this, so feel free to roll eyes

The fix obviously is either linear aftermarket gauges or the linearisation mod to the stock gauge: Intstructions PDF

Has anyone done this mod, or have any suggestions?

It seems more useful to have a warning alarm, so maybe an Arduino project that reads the signal from the stock sender... anyone done this?

Any advice would be appreciated... now that I'm shitting myself about bricking the engine on a mild day

Most people use a PFC and have it displayed on the commander.

Just a quirk of the design of the car, if it shows its hot it too late !

I didn't want aftermarket gauges as they look out of place on an otherwise standard car. I've linearised my temp gauge and it works well (y).

Great, would you mind confirming if the PDF I Linked to previously is still accurate for a 2000 car?
