Can I be kindly enlightened as to which components are required to replace the stock brake rotor and calliper system to the larger ones used on the RS/RZ models? From what I gather, the following need to be replaced front and back but I am not sure whether I have this all covered -

1. Rear brake support mount / hanger for bigger rotors
2. Front and rear brake dust covers
3. RS/RZ spec front callipers to accommodate bigger rotors
4. Matching brake pads for the larger rotors
5. 314/32mm brake rotors (Same sizes for front and rear?)

Many thanks!

you will need the follwoing

Front:
RS/RZ Calipers
RS/RZ Discs

Rear:
RS/RZ Calipers
RS/RZ Discs

The dust covers can be hammered out to fit the larger brakes, but obviously you can buy the right ones from RHD, but they work out about £250 for a set of 4

And no they're not the same sizes think that right for the front but I'd have to look it up for the rears

Lol my mate sold his big brake kit last year. Think he sold the full set front and rear fir 600 quid. And he lives in fforest Fach jeff ? sorry mate!

I now manufacture the brake covers for all sizes of disks

Ive got a pair of rebuilt front rz calipers for sale if you're interested.
Thanks, I will let you know if I am interested in taking those. In the mean time I would need to seek for the rear ones as I don't want to muck up the brake bias by going big up front but leaving the rear stock. (y)

The larger brakes use the same pads as the smaller brakes.
To fit the guards you'll need to pull the wheel bearings. So would be a good idea to get a set of new bearings while you've got them apart.
You're right that the rear discs do also increase to 314mm, but stay 20mm thick like the smaller brakes (Hence why you can get away with just a larger hanger).
If the front calipers do not come with the hard line to join to the brake flexible lines you'll need to make some up.
It's worth getting new pad pins, they're cheap and usually pretty corroded.
Well worth rebuilding the calipers before you fit them, although knowing you I imagine you're planning to do that anyway :).

Thanks so much for the info Tom ;)
When you say pull out the wheel bearings, did you mean it is simply part of the procedure for replacing the dust guards? I know either way I would need to get new OEM 99 Spec rear guards that come as 314mm the same as the bigger rear rotors. Front wheel bearings should be easy to get hold of here. (y)

I can indeed rebuild the rear callipers I already have on the car, still got a pack of new calliper seals whilst I remember you brought front seals off me. New 17 inch rear rotor hangers are £123 per pair plus shipping. I'll see what I can get hold of affordable wise with the front callipers. A set of new Spirit R ones are a whopping £1012 new! There is a slightly cheaper set (around £870) brand new on Rinkya but add shipping and it would probably creep up to a grand with its size

Are there any good places in the UK to get the 314mm size rotors aftermarket (i.e. Dixcel)? A full set Mazda would be £556 from Amayama stocks.

You do not have to replace the front bearing as the complete hub just slides off the stub axle. It is a very simple 10min job

The rear are a different story you will 100% need to replace the bearings

Craig

I thought you were meant to post pics with a how to??? ???? luckily so far, I've not had to change any bearings, in fact I've never changed disks or pads!
