SignUp Now!Noob here, what’s the poor, good and very good numbers for a rotary compression test.
8 new
7 rebuilt
6 big ports or used
5 well used
4 needing a rebuild
3 dead
Most 13b would be still running into the 4s. Mine was only starting to take a bit longer to start after heavy track use, very hot, in the high 4s.
Cold start was fine.
Thanks for the info.
Would you expect to see lower results on a bridge vs say a street or stock port then ?
I’ve got an Rx8 mostly in the 5s and seems to drive and start perfectly, bit of a mystery on what’s acceptable really
A lot of people are happy to run them below Mazda's minimum specifications, me on the other hand it's a no, no.
The amount of engineering and R&D that went into the rotary engine to me means that what the manufacturer says is best, if you're in the 6's you should refresh the seals. Wear is wear and going too low could result in a repair bill more expensive than just a new seat of seals. Luckily for RX8 owners there are a lot of spare engines around, due to the chassis rusting away.
in an fd an engine in the 6,s is fine. i would only start putting money back for a rebuild if it got to very low 6 or high 5,s ready for low 5,s which could still literally take years if the car is looked after
Not based on your last sale / return took months!
Out of spec is out of spec, it's just a matter of time, best to refresh and get it back to good health than have to replace irons and housings because "it'll last longer if I nurse it".
