Cat - Noise difference

Hi all

May sound backwards to some but car is too loud. Has a hi-flo cat and unknown 3" 'jap can' style cat back.

I have a brand new cat - if I shove it in will it make it a bit quieter?

On a side note I've genuinely been upsetting several neighbours. On idle. Lol

mine was quieter when i had the cat on, but it was still loud... and imho it didnt really have a nice tone to it with the cat on...

Racing beats exhausts tend to have a quiet idle and still maintain a nice sound when on the throttle

Putting in the oem cat will make it a lot quieter. My was clogged causing me issues on the dyno recently. I swapped it out for a straight through pipe and the car is VERY loud now. I only done it to check the cat definitely was causing me issues. I'll be welding in a silencer to try and quieten it down a bit. Also jap style cans offer very little silencing so might be worth getting a different cat back.

Thanks guys,
Won't be able to get a new cat back for a while due to funds so trial and error comes first 😎🛠️

One more question - Will fitting the cat cause it to jump on a train of impending doom, or spontaneously combust, or do anything else we don't want it to do? (Other than clog and lose power I can deal with that)

Two big silencers on a 3 inch and you shouldn't have any issue, cat or not.

As Nas says it'll be your back box making the noise

Aw shame. I only ask because I had an MX-5 which I decatted, and that made it a lot louder, just thought the same might apply.

I bought the cat last year as i sort of scared myself about the two mod rule on a OEM ECU. I'll have to start putting me pennies away :)
