I think it's an illusion.... like when you see a car with alloys speeding up/slowing down, the wheel always looks like it's in reverse!

Aliasing? I don’t think it is, it’s turning too slow for that. I just assumed it turned the same way as the shaft.

It should as it's fixed to the shaft! It is on a real one anyway lol
