Recommendations on headlights

Yes - so I was going to swap them out.

i.e. Sleek headlights for MOT
Ducted for Trackdays - something like this:

If it were me doing a DIY project (which I nearly did but on popups), this is what I'd be doing; I'd buy an old unit something like what youve shown above, remove the old halogen lamp, and stick a projector unit in of a similar size which has both low and high beam with a good pattern and cutoff. My main concern would be reliability (think heat management), beam pattern quality, and adequate brightness. This is pretty much what they do on the Sakura-whatsitnow and the crazythegod projector units for popups.

That way, you have 2 vents - 1 each side. You keep full functionality of both lows and both highs. You can have great light output and also not piss everyone off in front of you. Would you pass MOT? Depends what parts you get I suppose - not sure if you can find lamps like what I'm thinking of that are E-marked (at least... not cheaply). If you did it right, the pattern and cutoff would be passable. It'd be in a proper unit so the bulb and unit would match. If you did find E-marked units, I don't see why it wouldnt pass even a strict tester..

When I was doing a lot of research for upgrading my headlights I didnt really look at the sleek stuff because its not my style... but if it were, I'd be combining something like this:

Buckets only, no lights.

with something like these, but not as rubbish:

Because im cheap, but I have the tools and time to put in some effort and make them usable. I'd be concered about waterproofing an open design, vs getting something with a clear front. But you'd probably get more raw airflow through the bigger hole.

Or perhaps I've got the wrong idea here? How far do you want to go with DIY?
