A few of us were at a track day on 1st September at Snetterton and the day was a blast until the very end. The weather was good and everyone's car was running great. We had 4 FDs there with different setups:
Me: 1.0-1.2 bar twins making c.360-380hp.
Martin: Blue car with EFR 8474, diff, sticky tyres and other goodies making 460hp on low boost and 540hp on high boost.
Adam: Brand new semi-PP engine with S372 (?). Used the track day as a shakedown to get it running better.
Stu and Jay: 1.1 bar twins.
Unfortunately, I blew my motor on the last run out at the end of the day. I got caught in a power slide at high speed and to save the car I kept my foot in it and powered out until I could straighten the car. Unfortunately, this caused high G forces left and right of over 1.6 G each way (like a tank slapper), and the wheel spin led to a boost spike to 1.4 bar (beyond the stock map sensor capability), and caused oil starvation for the pickup in the sump and thus a drop in oil pressure temporarily by c.40% while at full throttle and nearly 6500 RPM.
I haven't had the engine apart yet but I'm pretty sure I've chipped a seal due to the boost spike but also spun a bearing on the rear rotor. I've taken the initiative to order a Mazda reman from Mazda and finally go down the route of blowing a load of money on a single turbo conversion.
Anyway, some great highlights from the day below in my car (blown motor around 11 minutes 10 seconds and after), and a ride in Martin's car on a mix of low and high boost.
