Rebuilding Stock RS calipers

I don’t suppose anyone has a link to speed bleeders/part numbers/billed nipple sizes handy do they?

Im currently waiting Mazda to get back to me about the rebuild parts but thinking of fitting the speed bleeders instead of the normal bleed nipples.

Thanks

One of them is I think M7x1.0 which you can only get from the states. Front and rears are different sizes

Ok thanks. The speed bleeders will have to wait a little.
My local dealer has just phoned and said he can’t get any of the rebuild parts apart from the bleed nipples 😕

best keep looking for the main parts before I worry about the bleed nipples

Amayama seems promising for everything.
I used the parts numbers listed above for the rs and they seem to have everything in stock.

it’s only a bit more expensive due to factoring shipping costs (~£20 all in).

I’ll be ordering them today I think so I can get on with rebuilding them. Thinks it’s around a 4 week delivery atm

you had a price from big red? considering sending my jag calipers there just coz I can't be arsed doing them myself and if I paint them they come out shit.

no haven’t had a price from big red.
think I’ll order from amayama and sort them out myself. Will give me something to do in the evening while kids are asleep.

Am I right in thinking the bleed nipples are the same for the calipers on normal size brakes and also the larger rs/rs/sr?

looking at speed bleeders that Essex rotary sell, but they aren’t sure on the actual size but say they will fit fd’s.

Can anyone quickly confirm what these are? I’m currently rebuilding my calipers, but as I ordered the kits from japan, it’s all in Japanese.
Obviously I don’t want to put stuff in the wrong place.

I also haven’t found where these two bits go yet, any suggestions?

thanks

They look like the oh rings that go Inbetween the two halves of the caliper

Bump to keep this thread alive. I just picked up some RS calipers not long ago. Bleed nipples seem to be the same size as the stock calipers so I think any nipple that fits those calipers should work. For the sake of having it on record, my caliper was missing a brake pad pin and with a little research the Celica GT4 pins are the same size as the RS ones (went to order OEM from Ray Crowe and was told it could take months to get new OEM pins from Mazda). They are available on eBay as a set of 4 for £10 and they came the next day.

For stripping the old paint off the calipers I just wire wheeled the whole thing and used paint stripper in the hard to reach areas staying away from the line where the calipers split.
Unfortunately the PO shaved the “Mazda” and “sumitomo” castings off so after painting I’ll have to decal the Mazda back on sort of like these calipers

Pretty nasty paint

Kind of how the calipers will look with “Mazda” decals instead of mazdaspeed

I'm pretty sure the small one just slips over the bleed nipple like a sleeve as they come with the rear calliper rebuild kits too, not sure on the other.

The pink grease is for use on the rubber seals and the orange is for the pistons and any linkage (handbrake on rears for example). Its worth covering lightly all the rubber parts with the pink grease as it protects it over time and prevent it from cracking etc.

The small one looks a lot like the rubber piece that sits on the end of the slider bolts for the rear caliper

Sir, I have you correct on that one! I never noticed at first that the two pins are different until I had to replace one.

Just sent my front RS calipers off to Bigg Red for a refurb in black as I fitted and bled them up only to find they had many stuck pistons!
Needless to say I couldn't push the car back into the garage lol!

Quoted £245 as it's a premium finish. Should hopefully get them back in a couple of weeks.

How tight are the retaining clips that hold the dust covers on?
I find they don't clip in as such and just grip the rubber boot, I feel like they could pop off.
Has anyone used a dab of sealant or glue to hold them on?

If that's the BIggredd kit you mean then I had to email them saying the same thing and they sent me some thinner wire type clips - more like oem for free.

Exactly this^
The originals held on quite tightly but these tend to want to slip over the rubber boots, I can’t remeber the originals being thinner, but I’ll email them like you did. Thanks for the tip!

How many cans of VHT to paint all 4 calipers? Would 1 primer, 2 paint & 1 clear be enough?
