I know this is a fairly common question so please forgive me. I need to, wish to, one seals gone on front so I might as well fit coilovers now rather than replace the fronts first followed by the rears 6 months a year down the line . I don't race, drift or even or track my '95 FD3S, I use it for fun on winding country roads. I'm looking at the HSD's Monopro and the Tein Street Flex, both around the £700 mark and it's my intention to stick to the standard rather than the softer springs. My question is, bearing in mind my driving, does it make any real difference what I put on.

Thanks in advance

Theres also BC or Meister R's, theyve all got roughly same reviews and same spring rates, some with options. I ran standard shocks for a year and a bit and then got hsd monopros. car feels a lot stiffer now but not too harsh. I think you get roughly the same package with all, if i was to buy again i would go tein or meisters as i had a top mount issue on one hsd.

No, the ones in the 700 bracket are what I would call mid-range, they use the same parts from the Chinese factory they just assemble them and paint them different colours.
The top end stuff like ohlins are £2.5k so prob not what you're looking for
You'll want to avoid anything ebay ish. I think 700 for mid range is good value for money all things considered

In summary, get whichever colour you like best.

Thanks mate, I know there are other options but didn't want to complicate things ;-)

I am looking at coilovers but looking at using the driftworks 0% finance option and my choices with that are hsd mono or the BC Racing.

I have Teins. Don't buy Teins.

I have NEW Tiens... Rolling shell came and i realised that actually the new Tiens are redesigned much better now then Tiens of ten years ago. They look just like my old mono pros and pretty much on par performance wise.

im of the opinion that the NEW Tiens, BC, meister, hsd, hypermax, etc etc around the 700 quid mark are near enough the same.

the issue is if you wanna make a step up your looking at 2x the cost.

That's okay Jack, I think they are all about equal at the end if the day. I liked the look of the Teins but my boy, a dc2 but wannabe rx7 driver was sceptical. As I mentioned in the original post, I dont track her it's just country road fun stuff... and watching the Honda boys drooling as I roll into one of the boys meets lol

You won't be disappointed with meisters mate. Everyone who has owned a set is instantly a fan. Whether all of bc, hsd etc are made in taiwan like meisters are i don't know but whatever they are doing they do it well.

See above comment about Chinese factories.

All these companies don't forge out the springs they get them from the same manufacturer and just assemble them themselves, that's the way the world works.

This. I find the teins on my car way to hard for road use, even on the softest settings
What spring rate did you go for James? 10/9 is the mid range... 8's for the softer ride and 12's if your looking to break your spine while driving lol

I'm not sure on the spring rates to be honest. They came on the car when I bought it. It's next on my list to sort. I'm looking into whether it's worth changing the springs on mine or just buying new coilovers with softer springs. I would like a set with 8's as the car is only used on road and I don't need anything to stiff. The car is currently back breaking stiff.

Could be 12's as the 10/9 is supposed to be the OEM... if your coilovers are fairly new you might be able to simply replace the springs with 8's but you'd need to speak to someone first as I'm not certain

If 10/9 is supposed to be oem I'd would have thought I've got the 12's as the car is not nice on the road with the current set up. I'm hoping to just replace the springs if I can. I'd rather not buy new coilovers.

Might be worth posting that as a new post and get some advice on the possibility of simply changing the springs
