Unsure if this goes here but it's benefit is inside the car. As we're all aware there's a bit of a heatwave going about. Went to drive the FD the other night and started to melt after 15 mins. Tried aircon and all it did was change the revs, air was no different. How hard is it to get regassed?, I know there may be leaks but I won't be able to tell until there's gas in it. Would local Halfords/kwik fit know how?

Should be quite simple to regas, our local kwik fit and other generic garages want about £60 to regas, aircon specialist was £30

I've been thinking the same thing. I thought my car was running R12 and would be a real pain in the ass. Had a look at the back of the compressor and it said R134a (not sure what year if any were R12)
R134a is the standard stuff so anywhere like kwikfit etc should be able to do it (dont think I'd trust them with fault finding etc)

If your rev's go up I think that'll mean the system thinks you have pressure, usually does nothing (other than turn the radiator fan on) if it thinks it's low pressure. Worth a double check in the factory service manual though

I think the revs just up to compensate for bartery drain ain't it?
Haha was a killer today weren't it Andrew! I put my windows up to race dean 😂 sweaty back Ai 😂

Haha still cooling down now, been sat infront of a fan all eve.
Going to try and book mine into red dragon air con in Pyle. Apparently they are one of the top air-con experts in the UK

Don't suppose they could retrofit it back into a car that's had all the leaky non-functional engine bay a/c parts ripped out to make way for a front mound IC & radiator setup? I've suffered for long enough without it!

I reckon plumbING the bits in on the car would be a diy or custom car fitters with a front mount set up!

Is this something you can do yourself at home with one of the kids from Halfords?. The FD is off the road for next week or two.

I wouldn't trust one of them kids in halfrauds, half of them struggle changing a light bulb 😂

Ive used these kits before, but tbh for what it will cost its cheaper to just get it refilled

Haha you're missing the map for ninja tom ain't that right @Ceylon 😂😂 (inside joke..... major tom was the only one to get lost.....3 times 😂)

I love my Aircon. I couldn't live without it! Joe and I were driving in comfort to and from the Mazda HQ with it on setting 3 or 4 blowing at our faces and feet. I don't understand why people remove it. I could never do it no matter how much I altered my engine bay layout. Same with the power steering!

I have disconnected and regassed mine before when I had the car resprayed. Still works great.

Yep, you're right roy! I wish I never took mine out! What a silly idea! One day I may put it back in! I threw all my bits in the bin too! May still have compressor though 😆

I still have all my parts, but they never worked properly anyway. Before ripping it out I did try regassing, but still didn't blow cold after. Upon removal there was a lot of dye on the rad and some on the compressor. No idea what condition the evaporator under the dash is in. Even my ducting doesn't work properly as I get more air to my feet when set to blow at my face!

To get it all working again I'd probably need replacement everything plus some custom work to compensate for the new engine bay arrangement. I do think about it though, but not sure who could do that work...

Bah I think we're just lucky this year anyway! It's only once every 20 years we get a good summer 😆 next year you'll be saying. Glad I didnt go through all that effort to put all my aircon back in as it's useless now 😂

Except I keep doing these epic Euro road trips too. Last one was pretty toasty, especially in the Dolomites and I may be off on another in a few months. I'd like to think that I'll be keeping the car for a long long time, so maybe I should just do it...
