Single turbo - Fuel pump

Hi all, looking for some tuning/fuelling advice.

I am currently in the process of installing a single turbo setup on my 13b.

Stock ports (for now)
HKS T51R
Standard primaries
1680 secondaries
AEM 50/50 Water Meth
All the usual bolt ons, air filter, exhaust, decat, intercooler etc etc.

Expected power is around 450-500hp

I am intending to install a Walbro 255 but I am having second thoughts on this and thinking about upgrading to the 450 for reassurance.
I would like to keep an in-tank fuel pump so I don't have the constant buzz.

Until we go for mapping, I don't know what power the FD will be making and therefore, never want to run the risk of running lean or pushing the pump beyond its limits however, It would be a shame to have to restrict the car when it's done due to maxing out the 255.

I am unsure of how to calculate the pumps delivery performance or what the 255 maximum output is? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
What are your other/alternative recommendations?

Thanks!
Sam

You will certainly need the 450, just drive it off boost until it's mapped. That turbo is gonna take some spooling on standard ports so shouldn't be an issue getting to your tuner.

Jumping in on this as it's got me worried a bit. My car has a deutshworks 300lph in tank pump. I'm currently at 475bhp at 1 bar with a turbonetics t72. Will I be close to the limits of the fuel pump when I go for another remap and up the boost to around 1.3 bar? I would hate to max out the fuel pump during mapping and have to go back for another remap later.

Probably mate, i expect you may be running higher than standard fuel pressure already on that pump. What are your peak inj duty figures?

No idea tbh. At one point during mapping Pip was running out of fuel but realised the voltage to the pump was down so he ran a new feed from the battery and all was good. I'm sure there was still plenty of reserve as Pip is very conservative and did say he could have pushed more out of it if we didn't run out of time.

Yep I've had a pip map myself so no how conservative he is. I guess if you give him a ring he will know if you were close to the limits of the pump.

Thanks for your response guys.

The main reason for buying the fuel pump was I did not trust the original being 20 years old.

I already have 1x 255, not installed yet -
There is another option to buy another 255 and use 2x 255s to ensure I have the minerals in fuel demand.

What do you think?

2x 255s
1x 450

ATB,
Sam
