My FD is absolutely mint at the moment with no signs of rust in the arches at all. I have had a few mx5 though so I know how quickly that can change. Is there a recommended way to prevent any rust starting? Gravetex or underseal under the liners?
The car is kept garaged and not used in the winter which should help.
Thoughts please!

I did a little research and used Dinitrol rust converter and wax. For any areas that I got down to bare metal I used Epoxy Mastic 121. It will be a few years until I can tell you the results though :)

My car was pretty clean. Most of the rust was under the fuel tank and around that area. Only surface rust mind, but I got the grinder out, sprayed it with rust converter then covered it with the mastic. For the arches I used rust remover (surface rust around the wishbone mounts), mastic and then sprayed it with anti stone chip (can't remember brand).

thanks mate, that sounds like the sort of thing I was planning on doing. The car is immaculate underneath with zero rust I’d just like to keep it that way. The arches worry me the most.

If it's clean and needs no rust treatment, if I was you I'd give it a good jet wash then re underseal, I'd inject wax oil into sills ect that way it will protect it for many years to come, there's loads of good products you could you use. As said dinitrol is a good one

The car has absolutely no under seal on it just now mate. It’s been in a garage since 2004.
