Something has been bothering me since I bought my 7 last year. When I'm on and off the throttle, especially in the lower gears, the car has a tendency to bounce back and forward excessively. It is at its worst in 1st gear if I lift off from a slow traffic crawl, it lurches forward and backward. It also does it when reapplying light thottle. It can still be felt in higher gears, but less so. It makes partial throttle cruising a bit annoying.
This can be remedied by clutching in before I lift on or off the throttle, but I'd just rather find the source of the bounce than have to work around it. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to give my passengers whiplash in traffic because the poor sods cant anticipate my throttle movements! I'm sure my clutch doesnt enjoy the doubling of its use either.
So drivetrain wise, I have adjusted and replaced the TB dashpot, still persists. I have had the engine rebuilt by Stu, still persists. Although he didnt mention it so maybe its just an inherent part of these cars? A previous owner has replaced the diff bushings with poly, and the engine mounts with OEM (There is a good amount of play in the engine mounts when prybar-ing, but they look to be good condition and just the usual rubber movement). All suspension bushings look not new but not bad condition either.
I'm really scratching my head at this. Does anyone else have this, and can it be improved? Perhaps poly engine/trans bushes would reduce the drivetrain movement?
