Hi guys, recently bought a rx7 bit of a project as it needs bodywork attention and it runs really poorly which is why it sat for a few years. I’ve had it about 2 months now and I’ve completely stripped it and in the process of taking it back to bare metal! I’m still deciding on the colour, we have a painted a wing in competition yellow and I wasn’t completely happy as I didn’t think it ‘popped’ enough. We are going to try lotus solar yellow and if that’s no better I am going to go with a red. As of yet I haven’t bought any parts but this car will have no expense spared. I’m aiming for no less than 500hp so any advice would be great, Going to start Buying parts for chassis/suspension and body first. Anyway hers the car and it’s journey so far!

No just been doing it on weekends. I’ve probs only spent about 50 hours on it so far.

Only a small update, been away and been busy so progress has been slow. Done some more rubbing down and some welding (still not finished). The new welder we have at work is amazing!! Although he takes his time the job is done perfectly. I also hate the rear quarter reflectors so I have made plates to cover them. I have rubbed down both front wheel arches and under sealed. Sub frame removed and need to clean and re paint now. I have ordered a few parts. I ordered k pro air suspension because where I live there’s lots of speed bumps so wanted the option to be able to Clear them. Also ordered rear diffuser, side skirts and super pro poly bush kit. I am wanting to replace all the rubber seals around the car. Ie windscreen and door seals, waiting on a call back from Mazda but I’m struggling to find them all. I want them all to be new so they look fresh, any ideas where to get them all? Still undecided on the colour, over the next few weeks we are going to try a couple of custom reds but still have my heart set on yellow.

Progress was extremely slow waiting for the welder to finish up his bit but it’s finally welded and being sprayed. Whilst he was doing his bit I’ve been sandblasting and painting lots of parts and also checking all the motors work. Here’s some pictures along the way. She will be on air suspension. Not everyone’s liking but round my way there are speed bumps everywhere! The suspension arms were blasted and painted and I was a little bit sad and put the ‘mazda’ bits the same colour as the car lol. I did the callipers black and painted the ‘Mazda’badge on that yellow but have since changed my mind and want the callipers yellow so that needs to be done.rear quarter reflectors have been blanked off for a smooth finish. Also have been talking to Chris at re:works,seems to know his stuff andhopegully he’s going to be sorting the engine out and tuning it, after talking to him I’ve decided to aim for 600hp with some major modifications to keep it as reliable as possible . Sent a few things away for hydro dipping. Got some pictures sent over whilst he was doing them, hopefully will be ready this weekend to collect. Come a long way and still got a heck of a journey to go but looking forward to it and can’t wait to get her on the road!

Air suspension in the box. It’s the competition yellow mica, paint was pricey as it’s 3 stage. It has one brakes at the minute. Brakes are quick and easy to change so will be looking to upgrade once she’s finally running. She was a non runner when I bought it and hadn’t started for 3 years, so wanted to keep extra money back for the engine.

Originally was just going to go for coil overs but my old s2000 on stock suspension struggled to get past the horrendous speed bumps my way and it wouldn’t go on the drive, didn’t want to spend all this time on money to take the bottom out lol.

So I’ve not had much time to get on the car but have made some progress.
unfortunately paint has caused me a right headache and lots of wasted time. They painted most of the car and it looked great but then they couldn’t match the last few but!!! Instead of yellow everything was coming out more orange, the only solution after many failed attempts at trying to match it was to repaint it all.
it’s now finally been painted and today I set the air suspension height which was so time consuming but finally sorted it, just need to adjust pipe work to fit properly now. Wheels arrived and I think they look awesome with Yokohama ad08r all round. Glass is in and looks great, outside the car looks awesome but interior is shoddy. That will be a job for next year as money for the rex is quickly dwindling. After waiting 2 months for the turbo kit it shouldfinally be here by Tuesday!! Then Chris at re works is going to run it in and tune it and hopefully she will be on the road. Haven’t got many pictures but here’s a few

It had 2 separate tins of paint that I ordered but I had the technician from suppliers down which said there was nothing wrong with the paint and before we could get our painter to try a sample pot that the supplier bought he left.
