I had been looking for a rx7 for a while and this little gem popped up for sale local so i had to go have a look.
I had no intention of buying a non runner as my first rotary experience . But heres a picture of it the day i viewed it.
Off the road for 8 years ,Doors didnt unlock, no log book, broken door handles, unknown milage and history, kids bouncing foot balls off it ?.
As soon as i seen it i knew i needed to save this crazy JDM legend.
A deal was done and i had it picked up which took 2.5 hrs to load because it was so low and had flat tires.
A few hours later she was home.and thr next day i set about opening the seized passenger door as the handle was snapped off and none of the bars to open the door worked either.
Now that all the doors ect opened we set about getting that non running engine working.
So i bought a new battery, sprayed some lube into the plug holes and tryed to turn it over, it spun up and sounded like it had good compression with the plugs out.
Next job was to inspect the fuel pump and lucky we did as it was seized solid
Lucky we had a cheap spare fuel pump we banged in it for the time being and turned the car over, it sounded like it wanted to start but didnt catch.
So i went and bought all new spark plugs, which hurt my feeling as there so expensive but it needed to be done.
Straight after fitting them and a fresh tank of fuel we turned it over and it fired up.
We were so happy to see only 30k miles on the clock(converted from km) which was backed up with the jdm history which i converted with google translate ?.
Emotions ran wild and we must have woke most of my neighbours up cos it late and was so loud but i knew they would understand and wouldnt mind the fact they could here this once dead rotary fire back into life.
Now the car was running it was time someone who knew what they were doing was to look at the car ,so off to tim at RX motors to have all fluids and a check over and any work needed for the mot.
So on the recovery truck once again.
And dropped at tims
While it was here it had the rats nest looked at, headlight motor, solenoids, boost controller removed, omp and vairous other little things and the mot. Also had a conpression test and it was 6.4 front 6.7 rear.
Couldnt thank tim and ian enough they were brilliant and real nice guys.
I drove it about for a bit but came into a few issues like it wouldnt boost very well and also kept stalling when I come to a stop also the ecu was from an auto car so i spoke to tim and took the car back and we worked a few of the faults out and i drove the car on for a couple more weeks.
The car performed brilliantly but i knew it was suposed to be better so another trip to rx motors to get this sorted.
While it was here this time i had an apexi ecu fitted and some other little things done.
I drove it steady on the way home and the day after i took it for a blast down the roads to cheddar.
This drive really opened my eyes to see how quick this car really was and how well it handled . Made my 350z feel slow and fat so that got sold soon after ?.
Now the car was running good but still had a few small issues like random stalling still when coming to a stop i was happy enough to just have this thing on the road.
Had to pop over to my cousins house to get a pic of it next to his r34. We were very happy with life right at this moment.
A few months passed and driving this thing was great and the attention it gets is crazy but the small niggles that didnt bother me at first started bothering me now.
So i redid the whole rats nest with better sillicone hose, also deleted the air pump and fitted a dm idler pully, new ast tank, new vaccume chamber and a few new solenoids and aircon delete and new ht leads.
Heres all the old junk removed , it did its job but i wanted it looking good and all new.
Time passed and i then adjusted the tps myself and the stalling has stopped which im very happy about .
Had a few local jobs so i thought id drive the car to work.
Not alot of work got done this day as i had to keep looking at it and checking it was ok ??.
Now i was happy i thought lets bang a front mount on it and a koyo n flow rad.
To be fair i had these parts for months and was dreading fitting them.
Yes i did it out on the road and in the pouring rain but i soldiered on , i got it all fitted and only have the ast tank /air filters and battery to relocate which shouldnt be too bad.
Now all i have left to fit is my new downpipe and the boost controller the get it remapped.
Ive probably missed out a few things but this is about 8 months work put in one thread.
Thanks for looking
