Exhaust temp light flashing

Drove the rx7 yesterday and had the exhaust temp light flash a few times

Car is on an apexi ecu, i dont have the hand controller.

What do these flashes mean.

Is their some kind of code reader for this as i understand it used as some kind of engine light ?

Ah ok , the car is driving idling ect fine so im assuming i need to get a new knock sensor or is their some kind of test i can do to see what the issue is ?
 
The knock sensors generally go off if you go over a pothole, so I wouldn't worry. So long as the car has been mapped and your AFRs are fine.

If a rotary has genuine detonation you'll soon know about it.

Ah ok thankyou, yes apexi mapped by jaydee and stu but since mapping ive poly bushed the whole car ect just wanted to double check what i read online which says the knock sensor is pretty useless and is a vibration monitor more then anything.

That light started flashing out of the blue and id prefer it not to flash cos its annoying 😂.
 
isn't it a under seat sensor relating to the cat or something.

Found this on that forum across the pond:


"its a little sensor under the carpet under the seat on some cars, and in the trunk on older stuff like my
rx5.
there was 2 wires going to it and if the exhaust gets hot enough it will heat up the
floor in the car and get the little sensor hot enough to switch the light on.
the sensors do fail and make the light stay on all the time.
does the light come on as soon as you start the car?
if so the sensor is bad.
a quick check would be to run the car till the light comes on and feel under the carpet
and see if the floor feels hot.
thats all this warning light does, it doesn't effect the engine at all.
it only warns you that the floor is getting hot and that it might catch fire
no big deal

Thankyou guys,

it only comes on a few flashes at a time when i accelerate hard or decelerate after a hard pull.

Weird as its only just started doing it.

But ive driven the car alot more miles the last 6 months .

That also sets the light of, but permanent, sounds like OP is knock sensor
 
Could be max inj duty!!

It was a while ago now but I was sure Jay changed the cat temp light to warn for 90% inj duty on my pfc. I could be mistaken.

I thought the cat temp light can be used for a number of limits not just the knock sensor.

Id be getting a commander if I was you

I think he said my injector duty was around 78% when it was mapped

what would be the cause of the light if it was injectors, dirty ?

Il will have to look at getting a commander.
 
Lots of things can raise inj duty,

More boost is usually caused by exhaust changes, wastgate issues

It might just simply be the usual knock sensor going off.

It was only a you said its seen on hard accel that made me suggest it.

Tbh it's guesswork without a commander

Ah ok ive not changed any engine parts bar spark plugs since it was mapped, only suspension changes.

I will see if i can get hold of a hand controller and go from their, if not il see if i can book it in with a specialist

It seems i have the older apexi ecu, will the new oled universal hand controller work with this ?

This is the one im looking at, it does say compatible with all models but i like to double check as ive read about people messing up buying these hand controllers before.

Anyone have experience with this ?

See if you can get a video of it flashing, the way it flashes is different for knock vs max inj.
In the stock pfc case slow for injector warning and fast for knock.

Its defo fast i think it was 3 fast followed by 3 fast, but will check when i next drive it.

Ive just ordered a hand controller as at first i didnt see my car listed on the compatability but then i actually looked and it was their.

So hopefully that will help narrow it down too when it comes.

Fitted the hand contoller max peak knock on the drive home was 81, but the light didnt flash when it got that high, it literally only flashes after ive accelerated then took my foot off the accelerator then the revs start coming down and the exhaust over heat light flashes.

I will monitor it on the way to work tomorrow and back and see what the knock and injector duty is again too.

Its Weird cos the car drives ok, just annoying the flashing light comes on
