Yeah, side impact on this car scares the shit out of me. And to think that car in the pic is the Spirit R with a metal bar reinforcement in the door which I think was only added from about 2000 onwards. Ceylon will provide the correct details on that.

Earlier cars will end up even worse from a side impact.

I Feel the same, without caging it is there any we can do, can we fab these impact bars up? i was thinking a of a samberg cage with door bars, but i think that would really piss me off

Jesus, i've had issues with my mx5 today and had to abandon it :ROFLMAO: I was thinking of taking the 7 out tomorrow but I might be better off just getting a bus!

A bit of baggage... I've cut an awful lot of folk out of cars through the years. I can remember that nearly all of those who'd had a drivers side impact didn't make it through, even if there were little or no serious visible injuries.
The side to side whiplash into the window is certainly not too good for our brains :(
Thankfully most cars now have side and curtain airbags.

This photo is just a reminder that the FD design is over 25 years old and thus the safety engineering is far behind a modern car, so when you are out there driving your FD very fast on a public road, think twice. It's a brittle car in an accident from most directions.

So the moral of the story is.... if you want a fd drive it sensibly if you want fruit (banana) n veg (you or the passenger or both) then drive like an idiot!

This brings up another perspective (which I know not everyone will agree on) of whether street driven FD's should be tuned and built liberally to achieve too high of power levels given that its safety features are negligent to modern standards and is by all means a no holds barred rear wheel drive car. Obviously the plans for a track oriented FD, the priorities and criteria for the chassis, roll bar reinforcements, exterior aero and other race safety features allow drivers to have confidence with an FD tuned for high power.

I guess with the enormous tuning potential of the FD there is always a pursuit of high power figures and I'm in no doubt the chassis can by and large handle 600+ bhp; but can a normal driver handle those capabilities and hold it together on public roads, is another question.

I went to the scrappers and they had one that had been side bashed, apparently guy survived because he didn't have his seat belt on and got flung into the passenger seat.

Someone please tell me more i never knew this? Makes me want a pair of 2000+ doors now!

I had to drive home in the 7 from Essex at 10.00pm on Tuesday evening -4 and even driving like Miss Daisy I had
a few brown trouser moments, I will not be taking her out again while the white stuff is about, let alone
taking her out to play.
