Windows not working

Hi all,
new to the site, looks good so far.

I am trying to get a few little niggles sorted with my FD. One such problem are the windows.
Neither drivers side nor passengers side window will open. I am beyond useless when it comes to electrics, so any and all help/advice would be very much appreciated.

Most common cause is the driver side switch. That’s the first thing I’d check

Thank you for the speedy reply. Aside from trying to get a loan of another, is there a way I can test it?

Yep you can take them apart and clean the contacts, they get carbon build up on them. prob the same on both passenger and drivers side.

You could put the meter on ohms and operate the switch when disconnected to see if it works.

I'm thinking that as both stopped working at the same time, it might be the relay, F110.
I've just ordered a mountain of capacitors, with the intention of refreshing the F110 and the speedo/odo too, as its been erratic for ages (like myself).

If I end up placing wanted ads for those bits, you can assume I cocked it up

Sorry to hijack, both my windows work but the drivers side switch is weird, up is down and down is up on one window switch, just a tad annoying, anyone got any ideas, ive not even bothered to look at it

Yes it could be the f110, but a faulty contact in the drivers switch could stop both windows from working. Power for passenger windows goes through the drivers switch.

Won't that just be wires pinned the wrong way?

Probably, i actually pulled it out the lock up for the first thime since October yesterday. Is annoying but i have (typically for an fd owner) bigger things to sort out

Cheers Joe, appreciate the advice.
I had swapped the window switch in the past, so I bought a secondhand F110. Just tried it but no joy.
I'm going to clean the contacts as you advised and try that.

Mine does that also really odd will the swich only go in one way

Cleaned the contacts, but still not working. When I operate the switch, the motor makes a click sound, but no window movement. Same for the passenger side. Could I be unlucky enough to have two window motors go at the same time?

Not looked at it yet, if i get chance ill have a peek and let you know, i think its a block connector though, repinning it should be simple

Motor works when connected directly to power. Switch is good, so must be a wiring issue.
Time to check grounds

Do you have a multimeter? Check the resistance of the ground wires agsinst an earth point.
