My MY2000 import has a working - as in turns on and off - flip front radio/mini disc/satnav.

Is there a way to get any of those elements working in the UK or is it scrap?

Prob not. The radio will likely be on Japanese bandwidths which aren’t the same as ours. Minidisc…. Erm who even has minidisc now. Sat nav you might be able to get working if you can get U.K. software. All in all you may as well replace it.

I read somewhere that you can re-programme the bandwidth so it works for over here.

But if it's aftermarket, not really worth it, just get a new fancy one from Halfords, 12 month warranty

Yeah, you can get GM bandwidth convertor for Japanese FM radios, but you end up with the frequencies you're tuning to not matching the displayed frequency.
Also you might find that the satnav is just 100% Japanese, which could be even less useful ;)

What you mean? Mini disc just came out in Wales, all my mates got one, I'm saving but not quite there yet, can't wait to get mine, they look so cool!

Thanks guys. I expected as much but I was hoping to keep it as it's quite funky - in my uncool opinion. I even have a remote control and the Japanese manual. I'll have to get something else for my bangin toons. :ROFLMAO:

I'm rocking MD!!! lol

NICE!!! lol

Yeah Mini Discs are fetching a pretty penny these days... I was just the right age when MD's were a thing (were they really ever a thing?? lol)
I had a friend from Asia I went to school with so he sorted me out with a MD player/recorder early on in its life.. Didnt really take off here.
I love them anyway and Still do..

You'll probably get good money for a JDM stereo, I sold a minidisc stereo for an mx5 for a good few £100.

Before streaming/mp3 took off I used mini discs a lot, could fit like 3 albums onto a single disc so was great when travelling.

Haha I had a md in my first car, mk2 fez in 2002! I really like the look of this set up!

Put an MD player in mine too, living the 90's life. Minidisc nearly went big so many times, first everyone banked on Digital tape, then it went away, then early Mp3 players, then net MD matched it with mp3 compatability. Was all over when the iPod landed though.

Apparently until recently they were used a lot in music theater for sound effects as they cue'd faster than a CD would.

I managed to get the MD version of my stereo I had as a youth, that's in the office. Still not retrieved my discs from my mum's loft yet though!

Thanks for the background all. A mate has given me a disc but although it loads I can't get it to play. It seems locked into the Strada satnav.

I need some music. The Hashimoto exhaust is bloody loud!

Can anyone recommend something I can buy off the shelf in the UK that will slot straight in and work with the existing speakers. I'm not bothered about hifi in performance cars but I don't want something really cheap that sounds crap with any volume.

Double or single DIN? Do you want Bluetooth connectivity, or any other form of input? I might be wrong but I think anything non-standard will require either an adapter or a little wiring in order to get the speakers and the headunit connected to each other. Its nothing too complex, tbh

Hi all, may I ask a different JDM radio question. My import has an Alpine unit that works on the EU bandwidth (as it shows), but it looks that either the antenna is not connected at all or not connected in a right way so that the automatic aerial works too. Is there an adapter or anything that needs to go between in order to work when radio it's turned on?

Thanks in advance!

Not fussed on size Jake. Any satnav needed, which is unlikely given the journeys I do, I'd use Waze on my phone.. As for Bluetooth - I suppose so as I don't like wired connections in general. I don't like Apple products and my phone is android.
